1991 Honda Prelude Si

Summary:

Good first car for teens

Faults:

Timing belt broke at about 135,000 miles.

Leak in transmission.

A/C is getting weak.

Exhaust corrosion.

Leak in the moon roof.

General Comments:

Previous owner didn't wax it enough so rust holes have developed on the body around the wheels and paint is cracked all around. It is currently in the shop getting a new door put on (wreck) and while it is in I am getting other dents and dings taken out, the rust holes filled and a new paint job.

I am looking to get a new exhaust system soon.

I can't comment on the rust/paint issues as my '91 has no problems of any kind like that, but the timing belt issue is really the responsibility of the owner. A buyer of a car with that many miles needs to find out if the timing belt has been changed and, if not or unknown, needs to have it done. That issue is on the buyer/new owner.

NOT a "good first car for teens"!

The thing has a 1-star driver's front crash-test rating by 1997 standards.

AKA it is a death trap!

Most late 80s cars are safer.

...other than that it's a pretty nice car.

1991 Honda Prelude Si

Summary:

Excellent in road handling, and reliable car

Faults:

Master Cylinder Break Got Weaker.

General Comments:

Prelude is an excellent car. Easy to handle the road, make sharp turn.

Secret to maintain him is to change oil every 3K miles and transmission oil every two years.

1991 Honda Prelude Si 2.1

Summary:

A wise choice to buy, new or used!

Faults:

The sender on the gas tank has gone out, so that means the gas gauge does not work.

Also the low idling is bad and fluctuates when not accelerating on the gas pedal.

Another problem was the middle console keeps falling off from its position.

The cabin is a bit cramped.

General Comments:

This car gets awesome gas mileage!

Fast on the pavement.

Handles excellently.

The power-train lasts forever.

1991 Honda Prelude 4ws

Summary:

The best sports car for under $10,000!

Faults:

Nothing, except the "check engine" light comes on every 3000 miles regardless if the oil needs changing or not. When the oil is changed, the light goes off. Interesting that it is the engine light rather than the "oil" light.

Piping on the driver's seat has unravelled slightly.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is 10 years old, but whoever had it before me must have never driven it, since it only has 55,000 miles on it. It's practically brand new!

It handles like a dream, is very quick off the line, and can weave in and out of traffic like a motorcycle.

The back seat is a little small for adults.

It has developed some rattles in the interior that only come out when driving on a bumpy or poorly maintained road.

It's very low to the ground so one must be careful when driving in neighbourhoods that have speed bumps.

1991 Honda Prelude 4ws Si 2.1L

Summary:

It turns very well on corners!

Faults:

Brakes replaced every 50,000 to 60,000 miles as well as the tires.

Timing belt got replaced at 93,000 and at 174,000.

Alternator caught on fire at approximately 102,000.

Engine pulley makes a lot of "squeaking" noise and finally came off.

Mis-aligned driver's side door at 110,000 due to wear and tear.

General Comments:

This car's engine do not have that much torque until 3500 plus RPM. Ride is excellent and it corners well on curves.

However the rear seat is very small to fit a grown up.
