1993 Honda Prelude VTEC 2.2

Summary:

A great little car if you want quickness

Faults:

Headlights were replaced with euro style, and I cannot replace them myself.

General Comments:

This is a great car. However I am concerned that the rpm is up to 4,000 when the car is going 70 mph. And I wonder if that is normal? It is for my grandson, and he is having to adjust to manual shift, which is interesting to observe in this quick machine.

1993 Honda Prelude Si 2.3L I-4

Summary:

A sublime road-carving instrument with a couple of design quirks

Faults:

The battery was severely corroded upon purchase, to the point of leaking blotches of foamy blue copper sulfate. Had to replace the battery as well as the casing, which also corroded.

Tiny oil gasket leak -- minor enough to leave alone.

Slave cylinder needed replacing at 123k.

Front brake rotors warped -- replaced rotors and pads -- 125k.

Front brake rotors warped AGAIN 5000 miles later. Very un-Hondalike. By the way: I drive like an old lady.

Any other repairs were just routine maintenance.

General Comments:

Other than the front brake rotors, my Prelude's run like a top. The engine runs a little coarse when cold, but once warmed up, you would be hard pressed to tell there are 135,000 miles on the odometer.

Amazing refinement and road manners for a Japanese sport coupe. Maneuvering down the highway at speeds above 75 gives you a sense of oneness with the machine I haven't felt since my old 5-series.

Fuel economy ranges from 23 to 29, occasionally 30-32 if you're not in a hurry. Sadly, Honda insists on Premium fuel.

If I had to go back and do it all over again, I would have hunted for one of the 1994-96 models, since those had cup holders. And maybe one of the VTEC models, although the regular Si isn't exactly lacking for power.

P.S. This is probably the best looking Honda ever made. I sometimes catch myself admiring its curvy body in the parking lot.

1993 Honda Prelude Si 2.3

Summary:

I'll be so lucky to find another car like my '93 Prelude

Faults:

I had to change the timing belt and water pump at around 150000 kilometres, a clutch at around 275 000, and of course tires and brakes since i've put on over 200 000kms on this car.

General Comments:

I absolutely ADORE this car. I purchased it with 109 000kms and I never imagined that it would still be running as wonderful as it is at 325 500kms, and still going (knock on wood). It's full of pep, hugs corners wonderfully, and still looks surprisingly stylish. I can't really say anything negative about this car at all b/c it doesn't owe me a dime. I guess the only downfall is that it's not geared towards a growing family (i.e. babies) and so it's time to pass it on. I won't be surprised it if makes it to 400 000 and up. It's a fantastic SPORTS car!

1993 Honda Prelude VTEC 4 cylinder 2.2L VTEC

Summary:

It is the best car for its class and price

Faults:

I have had the same problem as many other people with the starting of the car. Sometimes it just wouldn't start. the main problem was the fuel pump relay. I got a new one and it started like a charm. don't get fooled if you have that problem, get a new relay and nothing else. and another problem I had was with the under-drive. all I did was buy a lightweight one from eBay for 40 dollars and it runs great and it added a lot of power to the car.

General Comments:

This car is fast. I've gotten to 138 and the speed governor kicked in. the only problem is that the fuel pump relay gone bad and that's a common thing on preludes.

I'm partial to the Yugo GV.

1993 Honda Prelude Si 2.3L

Summary:

Nice looking car with average performance

Faults:

The radiator and 4 coolant hoses had to be replaced shortly after purchase.

The air conditioner shuts off occasionally and there is a general electrical problem with the heating/cooling controls; the lights don't always work and it has problems switching air direction (ie. changing from defrost to floor, etc.)

No serious repairs have been required and still runs well for its age.

General Comments:

I love the exterior and interior style of the car. While it's not very fast at 160HP it handles very well.
