1995 Hyundai Accent L 1.5L Gas

Summary:

Zippy gas miser and fun to own

Faults:

I bought my Accent used, in 2000. Right away I had a problem with the exhaust pipe from the manifold, which they fixed immediately, no charge. That's my one good dealing with Hyundai service.

The windows on both doors were extremely stiff to roll up (manual handles) and down. When I called the dealer they told me to spray silicone lubricant into the tracks, which lasts only until the next rainfall, and you have to keep doing it over and over.

The cable clip on the drivers' door window has now snapped off and the window will not roll up OR down. I am currently waiting to hear from Hyundai whether they will replace the mechanism in a goodwill process or how much it will cost me to have them repair it for me. I've driven cars for over 25 years and cannot believe they would use plastic wheels & pulleys to roll the manual windows up and down - they are cheap and even on an inexpensive car, how much would it have taken to put metal pulleys and wheels on a high-tension mechanism, anyways???

Other than these latest problems, I do love my purple 95 Accent though. I'm looking at the Hyundai ElantraGT next though, just for a little more highway boot.

General Comments:

Hyundai should really look at where they put the plastic working parts in their cars. Other than that I have no real complaints, for now.

1995 Hyundai Accent GL 1 SOHC, 4 cylinder

Summary:

Small car with a little kick to it!

Faults:

The ceiling is falling off the roof of the car.

The hatch on the trunk broke off.

We have a good deal of rust on the body.

General Comments:

My brother who purchased it originally did all the maintenance required for the 7 year warranty.

The engine runs very nicely and except for the cosmetic damages we are very satisfied.

1995 Hyundai Accent 1.5 SOCH

Summary:

Great value, cheap to maintain, and fun to drive

Faults:

Paint around the side mirrors faded to white.

Rear brakes (145,000km)

Front right strut (165,000) - it had been slotted improperly by the dealer during a wheel alignment.

Miscellaneous bolts needed tightening (strut towers, emergency brake handle, etc)

Exhaust header heat-shield came off.

General Comments:

The car is a little noisy due to a few rattles and such.

Acceleration is terrific and the handling improved when I put on

175/70R13 tires - the added tire width really does make a difference (especially during winter)

Fuel economy is excellent - car is getting 51mpg with synthetic oil and better air filter on the highway.

5 Speed transmission was difficult to shift during winter (temperatures were down below -20C) but this improved significantly when I changed the trans-axle fluid to a slightly thinner synthetic gear oil.

The seats can get a little uncomfortable on long trips, but thanks to the 45L gas tank you have to stop for gas every so often so you can get out and stretch.

1995 Hyundai Accent 4 door

Summary:

Attractive family car, that's too small for a family, great on gas and insurance rates

Faults:

Rear windows did not open.

Rear door handle did not open from inside.

Outside window frame fell off.

Heater did not work.

One out of four speakers worked.

Dash cover cracked.

Rear seat belt lock, bottom portion of connector fell behind seats.

With all these problems I did not even bother taking it in for repairs or tune ups. I did not even bother with an oil change.

General Comments:

The car was great on gas.

The A/C worked which was surprising for this year, 1995.

Engine/Motor was so loud that my 1 speaker blew.

The car was too easy to change the dash board mileage, which I committed fraud to get the car out of my hands.

This was my first car, it drove easy and had great control, it helped me score a perfect 100% on my G-1 exit drivers test.

To my prior post:

I test drove a 2 door Accent (I owned a 4 door) and I loved the test drive... I miss driving my accent around town. I have a Beretta now and it is great on the highway, but sucks in the city. My Accent was the oppoiste.

~~Bonus now that I live in the city and I lived in the country when I had my Accent (I know I purchased back ward...duhh!!!).~~

I may consider buying another Accent since it drives nice and since I live in the city now, the windows did stick a little in this test drive as well...HMMMM???

Okay I do not see how the engine can have any affect on the sound system, much less make a speaker blow! you must have abused the speaker by blaring it at full blast, besides, I own one myself and I really don't think the engine is all that loud.
