1998 Hyundai Accent Sport 1.5L

Summary:

Incredible at any price!

Faults:

Not a thing, except the paint scratched fairly easily, despite 200 000 miles of back roads, hauling utility trailers, a wife, two kids and a dog.

General Comments:

Excellent gas mileage, although I admit I went up a heat range on the plugs and burn Premium gasoline. Loads of power both towing and at highway speed. Great handling especially of bad road.

Changed brake pads and shoes at 150 000 and that is it.

1998 Hyundai Accent sedan

Summary:

If someone tries to sell you this car, run!

Faults:

- The fan that blows air into the car from the heat/ac died. That would have cost $350 to replace.

- The front passenger door handle snapped off.

- A few months later, the front driver door handle broke off.

- The axles needed replacing.

- The engine block split.

- Transmission was bad.

- Brakes were bad.

- Frequently stalled, even when driving down the road at 60mph.

- Engine needed flushing.

There car needed so many repairs that the decision was made to junk it.

General Comments:

The sole redeeming value about this car was gas mileage.

Sounds like you never did routine maintenance on this bullet-proof car. Each and every car requires daily maintenance.

Driver's door handle broke, and later my 2 back door locks broke in a space of 1 week. We do not handle the car roughly at all. The car stalls occasionally. It may be something to do with the timing. I had to replace the engine also after the crankshaft wore out the bearing.

I've owned previous older high mileage cars that don't require these kind of repairs. These cars are definitely not built to last. You have to replace parts often.

1998 Hyundai Accent GL 1.5L Inline4Cylinder

Summary:

Best Car To Buy For The Money! Awesome Value!

Faults:

Check Engine Light Stays On For O2/EGR Related Reasons.

Tires Replaced (One had side-wall leak)

General Needs (Tires, Lube, Wipers, etc.)

Only thing major is clutch is slowly going out - but it has been like that for the past year and still ticking - just have to feather it more than a good one.

General Comments:

Definitely the best value I could ever get in a vehicle. I paid $600, plus new tires and general upkeep and it keeps going fine.

Interior is nice.

Starts and runs great - not perfect - but it also never fails - love it!

Pretty quick for a car like this - I am still amazed by it's speediness when I need it to go!

Gets decent gas mileage (30-40mpg) - would probably do better if I wanted to waste the money on the miscellaneous EGR repairs.

Summary:

100,000 miles and still runs great!

Faults:

Nothing!!!

General Comments:

This is a great car! we purchased the car brand new with 9 miles on it. My wife drove the car from 1998 to 2003 and then sold the car to my sister and she still drives the car daily. The car made several interstate trips over 700 miles and never gave us a bit of trouble. I went to visit my sister which now owns the car and we went for a drive and the car still runs like new, The car is small and God help you if you get t-boned by anything, I would purchase another Hyundai any day!

1998 Hyundai Accent GL 1.5

Summary:

The biggest mistake of my life

Faults:

Oil pan rusted out at ~98000 km.

Sway bar linkage was replaced at ~99000.

Brake pads and shoes replaced several times.

2 oxygen sensors replaced at 110000 km.

Exhaust replaced.

Door locks are very tricky to unlock and often freeze.

Brake line let go while I was driving the car at ~100000km.

Power steering pump broken at ~120000 km.

Trunk does not close properly.

The car makes unusual noises and clunking noises.

Touch up paint bought at the dealership (with the same paint name) did not match the car and was very obvious even from 10-15 feet back.

Plus many more problems.

General Comments:

Since buying this car I have paid more on repairs than I paid for the car. My Accent is continually in the shop. On a good note it looks good. The accent has poor acceleration and handles fair, that is when it is not in the garage. I find that replacement parts for this car are very expensive. I found the dealership to be generally rude and not near as helpful as they had been when they sold me the car. I have been trying to sell this car for months unfortunately it keeps braking. One person came to test drive the car and the check engine light came on.

I bought my 98 accent in 2000. It only had 26,000 miles on it.Now it has 131,000 miles. I do regular main. on it. The only problem I with it is it has a ticking noise under the hood. I had the dealer check it out. They could not find out what it is. I still get great gas miliage. Plus it is good looking little car. I live in Ohio.

Is your air coming from outside, or do you have the switch over on inside air? The little diagram that has inside/outside air, switch it to outside air.

*just a thought*

Thanx.
