2001 Hyundai Accent Coupe 1.5 Liter

Summary:

It's hard to look macho in this car

Faults:

Besides the regular maintenance, nothing has broken down, yet.

General Comments:

Please note that this is my girlfriends car, not mine, but since I don't have a car, I have been in this car for about 20000 miles for rides and occasionally driving it.

When my girlfriend loans me the car, I feel that it's absolutely impossible to look macho, or tough in it (I guess the Roxy sticker doesn't help). Even a Civic could look pretty cool with a suspension drop and a body kit, but this car I don't think was ever meant to be a street car. Of course my girlfriend looks really cute in it, she being 5'1 and 90 lbs this car fits her great.

About how it performs: The acceleration seems weak on the freeway no matter what the rpm, which explains the mid 30+ miles per gallon and the handling capabilities are ample for the average driver.

The interior makes me feel like I am in a tin can. The doors are fairly thin, and the seats are not the softest things in the world, but none the less, it feels more expensive inside than the $8500 she paid for it, new.

The wrap this up, there is nothing class beating about this car, but it doesn't really have any weak spots either. It goes from A to B, cost little to run, and for the most part, seems to be holding together well.

2001 Hyundai Accent GS 1.6

Summary:

A well- designed reliable budget wise car

Faults:

The spark plugs and wires were replaced under warranty at 24,500 miles even though there was only one bad spark plug. The dealership had the whole spark plug and spark plug wire assembly replaced for free. I was happy because it is just simple mainenance that would have been done at 30,000 miles any way.

At 40,000 miles my throttle position module was replaced under Hyundai's great basic warranty. With that part starting to fall apart, it caused the engine to idle past 1,000 revolutions per minute which was dangerous and had Hyundai Roadside Assistance tow it for free.

General Comments:

I purchased the vehicle used which meant that the 10 year/ 100,000 mile power- train warranty was terminated, but it still had the great basic warranty; 5 years/ 60,000 miles.

The seats seem like they were custom tailored to my back and my head. The head restraint is perfectly positioned for a vehicle that only cost $10,800 brand new!

The 1.6 liter engine keeps up with traffic very well.

I would only recommend the five speed manual which I have because of great mileage, power, and reliability.

The fit and finish of the interior is great for what it costs brand new.

The vehicle handles very well on tight corners, just don't drive it like a sports car by throwing it around large curves going excessive speeds.

Besides the drivers seat being very comfortable, every seat in the cabin has plentiful legroom and a good view of the road.

The middle rear seat has a very small hump which is the route for the exhaust system underneath the vehicle. Most vehicles have a large hump on the floor.

The vehicle has a respectable crash test rating for the four- door model trim.

I have no complaints about the cars handling.

I have no complaints about the vehicles handling, miles per gallon, cargo room, reliability, overall value, or fit and finish.

Great job Hyundai, couldn't be more happy.

2001 Hyundai Accent 1.5

Summary:

I still love my car going into the third year!

Faults:

In the harsh winters, the rear parking brake sometimes sticks on until you drive 5 feet and then it releases with a clunk.

No other faults found to date.

General Comments:

This is a cute, affordable, reliable car with many more built in comforts than one would expect for the price.

Third year and have not needed the a/c charged.

Have kept up with all oil changes including the break-in period of 3000 miles when I had the oil changed every 1000 miles during that time for extra safety.
