2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe GT 3.8

Summary:

My wife's 2003 Toyota Corolla has better handling than my 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT

Faults:

Within the first 25,000 miles the rear shocks were leaking. After I showed the leaks, the dealer decided to replace them under warranty. Since 35,000 miles my front shocks and springs feel very soft.

Alignment was out within 20,000 miles. Dealership charged me to fix it.

The engine is making a lifter ticking noise since 30000 miles, although I maintain my car according to the schedule.

General Comments:

The car looks awesome. Drives nice IF you drive slow. I had other performance cars. My Genesis Coupe 3.8GT lacks the handling of a sports coupe. I tried accelerating several times, and it swayed to the right and nearly caused me accidents. So, I have a sports car that I cannot even use to accelerate as the handling is so very poor. My tires have good tread. In snow the handling is awful even with good snow tires and rims.

I can hardly wait to pay off my car loan and trade it for another car, may be a Lexus ISF or IS350 or something. I have to drive this sports car like an old man on the highway, as the drive is so unpredictable.

Man, you're so right. Handling of my 2012 Gen Coupe 3.8 GT is awful. I also have the lifter noise. Mine is only 30,000 miles. The car looks nice though.

Handling is so bad, I'm so pissed.

Feb-24-2016 - UPDATE on my own review. I could not take the poor handling of the car so I gave it to my wife. She got rid of her 2003 Corolla which was in perfect condition. I bought a 2008 Lexus ISF. I will change the front shocks for my wife so the handling becomes better. I'm not worried as she doesn't accelerate fast like me. Also, I tested the market. Man, the Hyundai resale value sucks.

Update on my review (Apr-06-2016) since I gave my 2012 Genesis Coupe 3.8GT 85,000 km.

The Navi suddenly stopped working. So I unplugged and replugged the battery and it works now. Then the engine started making a "roaring" noise during cold starts when the temperature falls below 5C. I took her to the dealership, but unfortunately the car decided to start up normally.

Someone already posted a YouTube video with the exact same problem:

Nov-17-2016 - Update on my review. A few weeks ago my wife and I were hearing loud idling noise from the Genesis Coupe 3.8GT hood (or bonnet). I took it to the dealership. They replaced the A/C belt after diagnosing with a "car stethoscope". This didn't fix the noise. They then replaced the A/C compressor unit which fixed the issue. This was done under my bumper to bumper warranty. I've been using 91 octane. Since my wife took over, she is using 89 one week and 91 the other. Sucks, but there's nothing I can do.

Your 3.8 Genny lambda does not have lifters, shim buckets instead, ticking normal!

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe doesn't have valve lifters, it has under the buckets shims; does anybody know what they are talking about?

2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe R-Spec 2.0 turbo

Summary:

Simply awesome styling and performance!

Faults:

None! This car has been phenomenal and hasn't seen a single dealer visit since purchase. I get oil changes at a local shop and drive.

General Comments:

I've owned a few sports car, and this one has been my favorite. My previous car was a 2003 Infiniti G35, which was a great car as well, but it pales in comparison to the Genesis Coupe in both the performance and styling departments. The R-Spec package comes with Brembo brakes, stiffer shocks/springs and sportier seats.

This car gets attention like no other, with no shortage of lengthy gas station conversations with strangers. People even take pictures of it on the highway, and it's always fun to watch other drivers crank their head around to take a look.

The car was great when stock, and even better when modified. I didn't do much to the exterior, other than a nice set of BBS wheels, lowering springs and window tint, but the drive train got a nice reworking with an after market turbocharger and supporting modifications, which makes for a monstrous daily driver. The roads just disappear at an alarming rate, and the chassis is well composed while eating it up.
