1984 Hyundai Pony Base 1.4
Summary:
Runs great if you pour money into it
Faults:
Brakes needed replacing when car was 6 months old.
Alternator replaced twice since 1992.
Fan belt broke twice.
Underside rotted and had to be replaced in 1999.
Steering column replaced.
Major repairs needed in last 5 years of use; costing about $2000 a year.
Lighter stopped working years ago.
Door ajar light always on, can't be fixed.
Battery replaced 3 times.
Still original engine going strong.
Exhaust smell can't be fixed.
Rust started after 11 years of ownership when it was first parked outside.
Under carpet around spare tire is total rust.
General Comments:
Car reliably took us from point A to point B for 18 years, but at great cost of repair work. Parts break frequently; repairs are costly. The reason we kept it is because it had no trade in value. We've put perhaps $10,000 into it and it's worth maybe $200 or less right now.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

In 20 years, your lucky to get 3 batteries. Usually a battery has to be replaced every 5 years depending on the environment.
