2001 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0

Faults:

My dad bought me this car it was my first car. I loved the car at first everybody bragged on the car. I really did not have problems with the car until it got 50,000 miles on it. I have replaced numerous wheel barens and axles. The seats have worn really bad. I have had problems with the headlights and fog lights they blow out all the time; I have a headlight blown out right now. About six months ago I replaced the Thermostat because it was causing the car to overheat. Right now the car is overheating when I drive it for a long time or when the weather is hot. It also does it going up mountain roads. If anyone knows what the problem is please let me know.

General Comments:

Its mainly for looks.

It is probably a relay or fuse for the electric fan, or the electric fan motor itself.

2001 Hyundai Tiburon SE

Summary:

"They didn't get it right until 2003" ~Hyundai Service Manager

Faults:

Replaced front passenger side bearing and rear driver side bearing (each cost over $200) within 20000km of buying the car. Replaced same front bearing less than 12000km later, warranty expired so there's another $200.

Front wiper mechanism broke, requiring over $300 in repairs.

Passenger side window stuck for an entire summer, then just stared working again out of nowhere.

Exhaust manifold went around 70 000km, service covered the repair because even though it was no longer under warranty, it "shouldn't have gone already"

Shifter sticks, requiring the use of the shift lock override almost every time I take the car from Park. This problem existed when I bought the car and has yet to be fixed, though I'm told it's going to be free (after paying for a solenoid replacement) because they can't find the solution yet.

Service Engine light comes on and off randomly depending on the brand of fuel used.

Thermostat stuck open, causing engine to overheat... good thing I caught it in time before it destroyed the engine.

Insurance double that of the Sunfire I had before... even with a perfect driver rating. Johnson Insurance gave me the best rate so my cost has reduced this year.

Engine "jumps" into the next gear when it is colder than 5 below outside.

Snow tires are highly recommended.

Locks freeze very easily.

General Comments:

This car "fits" me well, at 5'4 it's tough to find a car with literally no blind spot.

I love the moonroof and the way the car handles, especially on turns.

I'd never buy a Tib again, every month it seems something else goes wrong with it.

I'm satisfied with the service I've received from the dealership and it isn't over priced like most. But I'm in there way too much for having a car under 90 000km.

2001 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L

Summary:

One sentence can't sum it up!

Faults:

Change wheel bearings.

General Comments:

Fantastic reliability. Bought the extended warranty, but never need to used it. At 250K miles, the only thing I replaced on this car is the wheel bearings as side from regula4 maintainance. I still get about 32 MPG on the highway and 28 MPG in the city. Still have my car and drive about 750 miles a week to/from work. Walk out the dealership at $14,250.00 new in 2001. Best investment I ever made.

2001 Hyundai Tiburon SE 2.5 Gas

Summary:

Great little car, but too many problems

Faults:

My flex pipe was broken when I bought the car :(. The dealer tried to tell me that I was the one who broke it. Then he said that I would have to pay for it myself, so I went to the BBB and worked it out with them, and the dealer ended up paying for it.

Just the other day my front windshield cracked when I lightly moved the rear view mirror.

Now a couple days after that, my windshield wipers are not working and it has been raining here for the last week. I took my car to Hyundai; they told me it was the links and that it is going to cost me $200 to fix it.

The seat belts always lock up in the front and the back.

The drivers side door is also getting stuck now.

And insurance is extremely high.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable and quick. It handles great and sounds great, as well as being very good on gas.

The factory speakers are the best I have ever heard, and there is plenty of room in the trunk for stuff.
