Faults:

I ran out of gas, not by my own fault. The low fuel warning light blinked on and within 2 miles my car was on the side of the road. The fuel filter clogged which blew the fuel pump. The dealership had the car for about 3 weeks before the found a faulty connection to the gas gauge. Everything was covered under warranty, and they gave me a rental. I haven't had a single problem with the rest of the car, and I put that baby through heck and back.

General Comments:

I love this car! I drive a lot and I have yet to get tired of it. In the last 2 years I've packed on 60000 miles and she still purrs.

The seats are low bucket seats that you kind of sink into, which makes me feel like I'm driving a race car, but older people don't quite appreciate it.

I like my car to look good. The Tiburon does with little effort. After 2 years, paint is still gleaming! Leather is still slick as ever! Carpets aren't ground in. I do baby my car (no Armor-All, only Meguiar's) but she (Tiburon) holds he rown!

Faults:

Passenger side power window suddenly stopped working. Other than that, no problems at all.

General Comments:

The Tiburon is a great sporty car for the price. The 2001 base model includes A/C, Cruise, tilt, power windows/locks, 6 speaker stereo, defogger, 4 wheel disc brakes, aluminum wheels, and let's not forget the "wannabe racer" spoiler on the rear deck. I paid under 14K after rebates. Couldn't touch a Celica or Eclipse for that much!

It's going in the shop for the first time in 2 1/2 years to have the passenger side power window looked at. Should be covered under the 6/60 "bumper to bumper" warranty.

Only complaint would be that the Hyundai engine is "harsher" than a Toyota or Honda engine at higher revs, but it has plenty of power and gets the job done reliably.

Of course after I buy one, they come out with a V6 6 speed model. (above my price range anyway...)

Handling and braking are very good, partly due to the high performance 15 inch Michelin tires that are standard equipment. Ride quality is what you would expect from a sporty car - firm, but not bone jarring.

I'll post a follow up after the car gets back from the dealer to fix the window. I've done all the maintenance myself since it was new, so it'll be the first trip to the repair shop.

Gas mileage is about 34mpg highway (75-80 mph sustained speeds), and 24mpg around town. (I'm heavy on the throttle ;) )

Faults:

My 2001 Hyundai Tiburon (black) is experiencing paint problems.

After getting the run around for 9 months, I FINALLY met with a Hyundai Rep that said that the paint problems were caused by bird stuff or tree sap and or insects. The Hyundai Rep refused to accept responsibility under the warranty.

I am going to have my car completely repainted by a body shop out of my own pocket. Then I will see about getting my money back through the courts.

Is there anyone out there who is having the same problem, and getting the same lame excuses? Do I need to go to small claims court, or are there enough people out there that this could become a class action lawsuit like the one Chrysler had to pay up for because of the same paint problems?

The problem starts as what looks like a small water spot, then blisters into a bigger spot and de-laminates. It happens all over my car. Is this what happens with water based automotive paint?

If you are having this same problem please respond with your experience with Hyundai paint. Let's get together and fight for the warranty that was given to us with the purchase of this car.

General Comments:

I would NEVER consider buying another Hyundai of any model, or any car painted with a water based paint. I have a 1996 Ford Contour painted with lacquer enamel, and it looks as good as the day I bought it.
