Faults:

The only significant problem I've ever had with this vehicle is that the alarm will sound occasionally, and for no apparent reason, and it's damned near impossible to shut it off without the remote. This has gotten me one ticket for Disturbing the Peace, and a lot of aggravation. Dealer swears it's a short and wants $275 to repair, my mechanic assures me there's no short. Is this a common problem in the '03 Tiburon? Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there any way to disable the alarm without disabling the horn?

General Comments:

Everything else has been a dream - I haven't run into any of the nasty problems detailed by other reviewers, but maybe that's because I have the 4-cyl, rather than the V6, which seems to be a real headache.

Faults:

- Rear brakes seized

- Rear quarter panel paint cracking

- Clutch issues (should be a recalled)

- Passenger door lock not working

- Alarm malfunctioning

- Speakers popping/screeching

- Trunk/rear hatch release not working

- Rims fading discolored

- Side view mirrors paint faded

- Gas cover paint faded.

General Comments:

I purchased this car last year, knowing very well what I was getting into. Most of the things I listed are fairly simple fixes, but all in all, I would not recommend this car to anyone who is NOT a DIY'er. Several things will "likely" go wrong with the car. Luckily most are not critical (engine/tranny), but you do need to have average mechanical skills when it comes to owning a Tiburon.

If you do have one or intend to buy one, I HIGHLY recommend doing the "slave cylinder mod" on your clutch. Look it up, it's easy to do and it did wonders for my clutch! The clutch was so much smoother after that. Any competent mechanic should not charge more than 1hr of labor for that simple modification (more like 30 minutes).

If you could look past the tweaks of the car, you'll find that it is a beauty and runs like a beast. All in all, a risky buy though, but I love it!!! Good luck.

Faults:

With the 67000 miles on my Tiburon..

I had noticed that my clutch was not doing so well. I would have to double-clutch, and put force onto the stick to get it into gear.

At first, my father and I figured it couldn't be the clutch going out already, so we had switched out the slave cylinder. When that had not helped, we switched out the master. Still the same problem and getting worse.

I had then done some research on this clutch and the other 2 components, and read that there is a RESTRICTOR IN THE SLAVE CYLINDER. Others with clutch problems should take this restrictor out, and your clutch life will be quite a bit better.

It was simple for me to get mine out of there, and my clutch has not gotten any worse since then.

General Comments:

I love the car, the only problem is what I have said previously.

Faults:

The paint on my gas tank has chipped off.

The sun roof had broken.

The check engine light comes off and on, along with the brake and air bag lights.

The CD player has broken, and only works when it is very warm in the summer, it never works in the winter or cold weather.

The passenger handle broke off.

The door locks don't work most of the time.

I have had to replace one of the headlights twice.

The stitching on the right corner of the driver seat is coming apart from wear.

General Comments:

I love my Tiburon, but it has had several issues in the last 2 years. I can say however I have had no major engine or other issues with the car. It has been a lot of cosmetic and smaller maintenance issues.

Although I have had no major issues with my Tiburon, I have had far too many overall issues to say that I support or would buy another Tiburon.
