2006 Hyundai Tucson GLS 2.7L V6

Summary:

Cheap to maintain, dependable. Some cheap cosmetic interior parts

Faults:

Recently we had to replace the front suspension, and before that we just needed to get a tune up.

Cosmetically, the interior door handles and armrest scratch very easily. Before that the CD player went out so we needed to replace it with an aftermarket stereo.

General Comments:

Overall this is a great car, it has been very reliable, and cheap to maintain minus some general tune ups and maintenance that should be expected with any older vehicle.

It's not amazing on gas mileage, but for a small SUV it's decent. It is a very comfortable drive for longer trips.

If you are looking for a solid dependable/affordable smaller SUV, I would definitely consider this one.

2006 Hyundai Tucson GLS 2.7L

Summary:

Solid performer

General Comments:

I've been quite happy with my Tuscon.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly one of the best value vehicles on the market.

Hyundai should change however to a 5-speed automatic.

Gas mileage could be better, but for most of my life I've driven smaller cars, so it's not a fair comparison.

Feels solid @ 150kmh.

Would have no problem recommending a Hyundai product.

2006 Hyundai Tucson 2.0

Summary:

Good

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the vehicle. Over two years on the road, and the only thing that happened was a squeaking noise when I was driving and NOT applying the brake. Hyundai wanted me to change the rotors at 40,000 KM, I took it to my mechanic who said that there was brake dust in the ports of the pad, disassembled and cleaned them up for free and they have are working fine now for the last 6 months. Wasn't happy that Hyundai wanted me to do unnecessary work, but I expect that from all dealers.

Other than that, just oil changes.

General Comments:

Only complaint is it is underpowered. The 2.0 engine doesn't have much guts, but I knew that when I bought it.

My dad's CRV has noticeably more power, but I wasn't willing to spent $5000 for a few extra ponies. Even my wife complains it is a bit too weak.

It gets around, reliable, safe, fits the baby seat and all the toys, and the back seats/ front passenger seat fold flat so it fits a ton of stuff, which has come in handy.

I was under the impression that 4WD doesn't exist with the manual tranny.

2006 Hyundai Tucson GL 2.0

Summary:

Exactly what it claims to be

Faults:

At 3,000 miles, I had an issue with the turn signal stalk which would stick from time to time, of course, this problem was covered under warranty.

Recall on the vehicle, Driver's Airbag Module replaced with new and revised bag.

8,000 miles, check engine light illuminated. No Hyundai dealership in reasonable distance, Dealt with problem by Hyundai using a 3rd party independent repair shop deal with the problem. 02 sensor faulty, resetting computer took care of the problem.

10,000 miles, empty on gas and trying to refuel at a gas station, gas filler door would not open, luckily able to pry it open with do damage and able to fill up. Problem never happened again.

14,500 miles, front passenger door handle trim broken, cigarette lighter shorted out, my local dealer ordered parts under warranty and should be replacing these items in 2 days.

General Comments:

Overall this vehicle has been reliable with no major problems that have effected the overall integrity of this vehicle. I looked a the CR-V and Rav-4 prior to settling on the Tucson. With being $4000-$5000 cheaper, I was sold on the Hyundai Tucson. Although underpowered, its still able to get me to the general speed of traffic. Fuel economy is fair: 23-25 MPG. I purchased the Base model GL 2wd with an automatic, nothing bare bones about this model. Biggest selling point was all the standard safety equipment with were optional other SUV's in its price range. I'm glad I purchased this sturdy lil SUV. Hyundai has come a far way from my brother's 1992 Hyundai Excel! Never thought i'd purchase a Hyundai but the value and price was right!
