Summary:

Great. I bought another Q45

Faults:

The water pump failed at 70000 miles.

The fuel pump failed at 72000 miles.

Major front suspension work at 145000 miles; shocks, lower control arms, upper control arms, tie rod end, and steering rack boot.

General Comments:

I love this car. It's fast and handles wonderfully for a car of its weight.

Body has held up well in the northern climate; not rust proofed.

Gets fair fuel mileage for a V8.

Seats wear well, but front seats are too hard on long trips.

1993 Infiniti Q45 V8

Summary:

Unless you are rich, don't buy this car!

Faults:

This car had problems ever since the day after I bought it. As soon as I bought it I had to replace all of the ignition coils, New Brake Master Cylinder, 4 New Struts. A little while after I replace all of the following:

New Alternator & Holes, All New Ignition Injectors, New Coils, New Bosch A/C Compressor, 2 New Rear Calipers, New Bosch Gas Pump & Filter, New High Tech Radiator, New Bosch Water Pump, New Center caps and put on new Michelin Pilot GT V4 high-performance all-season tires.

Then once I hit 194,000 miles the transmission died, and I blew a head gasket. The guy who I bought it from did not take care of this car. I bought it for $5,500 with 145k miles and put on 40k miles myself. I have spent over $6,500 replacing parts ever since I bought it.

It would have costed around $3,000 USD to place the Trans and head gasket. The car is only worth 2k. It just isn't worth fixing, so I junked it.

General Comments:

These cars have good performance and are fast and powerful. It is very expensive to fix. I should never have bought this for my first car. It was always being repaired. First it was one thing, and then next week it was something else. These cars suck a lot of gasoline and only get about 15 miles per gallon. I spent roughly 250 a month in gas. My next car wills most definitely a stick shift. I'll probably buy a Honda as those are good cars and get 40MPG to the tank. Plus, stick shift is a lot cheaper to replace...

Please do research when buying a used vehicle. You stated the previous owner treated it poorly then why would you buy it? Perhaps if you are not mechanically inclined you should have it checked out by your own mechanic so you know what you are getting into. You said it is a gas guzzler. If you didn't want a gas guzzler why did you buy a big 8 cylinder car instead of a 4 cylinder Honda (simple research). Probably the most important thing of all most older luxury cars are bound to be more expensive to repair after all they were $40,000 with high-tech electronic everything when new vs a $12,000 manual everything Honda. Common sense/Logic might have adverted this problem from the start? Instead of what appears to be impulse buying. I'm sorry for your misfortune.

It is good to do research when buying cars. I would have never bought an Infiniti with that many miles on it simply because it is a luxury car. The car may have cost 40,000 dollars when brand new, and have top of the line everything. But once those cars-luxury cars that is, depreciate in value and go over 100,000 miles All that expensive and extra stuff becomes very expensive to repair. So keep that in mind. I would rather buy a Honda Accord with that many miles, at least if something fails it won't be so expensive to fix.

1993 Infiniti Q45 ?

Summary:

A risky buy at this age, but so cheap it's worth the chance

Faults:

The front upper control arms have been replaced twice in 60000 miles. This is a known problem with early Q45s (I have seen the service printouts on several cars).

Six of the eight fuel injectors have been replaced. I suspect the other two are close, as it runs roughly sometimes.

The AC compressor locked up at 115000 miles. This was over $1000.

In spite of some very rough treatment whilst trying to get unstuck this past winter, the transmission remains trouble free.

General Comments:

At 10 years old and 125000 miles, this car still looks, runs, and drives very well. I have no real desire to replace it. No rust, nothing falling apart, no rattles (well, OK, one). I have spent a few thousand on repairs over the 60000 miles I have owned it, but it has been worth it, as it is still a pleasure to view and to drive. Common wisdom is that the transmission will eventually go out, and replacement will likely equal the car's book value. Still, I'll fix it. It's too nice a car to let it die over a few grand.

Yes, the Q-45 is a wonderful car. I own one myself and had a problems because of its age. I have now replaced almost everything under the hood, but the engine it self.

Wow my transmission just died in the car. This sure stinks, but now I will have to replace it. I rather just fix it, then buy a whole new car.
