1998 Infiniti Q45 Touring

Summary:

This car is not a good investment

Faults:

Engine Cooling Fan replaced at 78,000 miles.

ABS System failed.

Engine Control System (ECM computer) failed.

General Comments:

This car has excellent get up and go and is easy to handle.

Highway driving is a dream while city driving feels somewhat "boatish."

Expect an increase in gasoline bills.

The cabinet at night with all of the ambient lighting is a nice touch.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

These cars have very good value if you get a good one. The Infiniti Q45 went for $40,000-60,000 during its heyday. These cars had every option you could think of for their day.

They didn't sell a lot of them, and you will have to do your homework to buy a good one. One or two owner cars only... with maintenance records. Carfax would help to verify this. Have a great mechanic, who is able to get parts from a wrecking yard. Miles don't really matter on this type of car... condition does. One headlight from a dealership can set you back 500-700 dollars a pop... so everything has to be there and in good shape. Many great cars were built in the 90s and early 2000s:

Acura Legends

Acura RL.

BMW cars (3/5/7 Series)

Lexus LS 400/430s

Mercedes E Class

British Jags

And many many others

Many are at a fraction of the cost that they used be new. Many of these older cars should be strictly weekend only cars... not an everyday driver. Also many are on their 4th or 5th owner; even though they might be nice... you have to avoid them.

My advice is to research, research, and then research some more. Get the best reliable year out there... but you have to move quickly... the good ones go quick.

We live in such a disposable society now... out with the old and in with the new. These older cars have great value if you get the right one... but if you are not into keeping things up... you would be better leasing a Honda Accord for 139.00.

General Comments:

I've never had a single problem. This car outperforms the BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes. They can't hold a candle to the Q45, and it costs much less.

I am leasing a q45t which ends in july. I have 34000 miles and can buy it back for about 22,000.

$22,000 for a $40,000+ '98 Infiniti q45 is a great deal. Just look at the cost of the competition used... mainly the Lexus LS400.
