1999 Isuzu Rodeo LE

Summary:

The vehicle takes away the joy of driving.

Faults:

Initially the ABS system was replaced through the Isuzu recall. We are still having problems with it responding to hard stops at times. Reaction is delayed.

Then, the Check Engine Light came on though the vehicle was running well.

Shortly after this the Gas Gauge began to fail and the low fuel light began to flash though the tank was full.

These problems have persisted for approximately 40000 miles.

The newest problem has been an increase consumption of oil.

General Comments:

I have enjoyed my 99 Isuzu Rodeo, but have learned these problems are common among Rodeo owners. I have not heard whether Isuzu has owned up to correcting these problems or even addressing them. Dealers are quick to try an make a big buck off the owners without trying to address these issues through Isuzu. The fuel problem is found to be a bad sending unit, but the dealers want to replace it and the fuel pump at a costs of over $500. The sending unit costs about $40 and can be done by yourself with the proper instructions saving a bundle.

The Check Engine Light is due to a EGR Valve. Of course, the dealer wants a premium price to replace it as well.

I am the owner of a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo LS. So far the only problems I have experienced were the fuel gauge not working and oil consumption.

I bought a 99 Rodeo about a year ago and I have had 2 problems so far. First, the fuel gauge does not work and the the fuel light flashes constantly, second, the exhaust manifold gasket began to leak. I am going to change the fuel level sensor in the gas tank myself. Does anyone know if this will cure the fuel gauge problem?

1999 Isuzu Rodeo LS 6 cylinder

Summary:

Fun to drive, but not to own!

Faults:

ABS Light would go on and off irregularly. A cracked ring in brake system was the cause.

Intake replaced, the vehicle was starting and immediately stalling.

Cannot shift from Park to Drive because brake sensor needs to be replaced.

Oil is always low.

Below items are current and vehicle is in the repair garage today:

A/C not working

Ticking noise from front tire area

Starter not working (having to repeatedly turn over to get started)

General Comments:

This is my first foreign vehicle. I've heard such great things about foreign made vehicles. I've owned this Rodeo for a year and have had way too many problems with it. In one year so far we've spent over $1200 on repairs. Not including what todays garage appointment will bring.

I love the looks, power and handling of the Rodeo. But the lack of dependability of this vehicle makes it not worth owning.

You must have purchased a lemon to begin with. I own my rodeo LS since 2000 and mine is also a 1999. So far the only problem I had encountered was the ignition switch. Had that replaced and everything else is good. I wouldn't mine bying another isuzu if I were to look for one.

This car is made in Indiana! Not so foreign if you ask me!

1999 Isuzu Rodeo LSE

Faults:

Nothing Yet... Bought used with 40,000 miles on it... mint condition...

General Comments:

Have had no problems with the rodeo... heard about the oil consumption problem with the 3.2 v6 motors.. talked to an isuzu mechanic.. said about 30% the rings will stick causing the leak and burning of the oil...

Oil being consumed is being burned up in the catalytic converters and owner will not know so watch the damn oil levels... speeking of which I'm going to go check mine now... Don't really think I will go with another Isuzu...
