1999 Isuzu Trooper
Summary:
I would buy this SUV again, but would trade it in within 3-4 years for a newer model.
Faults:
Replaced muffler in the third year (factory flaw).
Constant problem with "pinched hose" shortly after oil change at dealership.
New brakes four years in.
Replaced transmission at 78K, three months to "get it right" and at 85K (now) more transmission problems.
Replaced electronic sensor at same time as transmission, immediately followed by needing a new battery. (?)
Replaced starter three months later.
General Comments:
I love this SUV.
It handles well in the ice and snow.
The cargo area is HUGE and holds all of our camping equipment, plus two kayaks on top, and up to four bikes on the back.
Unfortunately, with the cost of gas and now the sudden onset of repairs (over $5,000 worth this time and counting), it is time to let go of this vehicle.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

For 2005, Isuzu is now down to only one model in the US and that one (Ascender) is just an existing GM model (TrailBlazer), built in the US, with an Isuzu nameplate on it.
Apparently the Isuzu company is having financial problems.
Would be leery of buying any Isuzu, as the future of that brand, at least in the US market, looks cloudy, and if they do withdraw, the resale values would probably drop considerably.
