2002 Isuzu Trooper S 3.2

Summary:

I think they are road warriors for the rural setting

Faults:

The tires sold with the vehicle were passenger tires which after (Firestone) 400 miles I experienced a blow out on the highway... dealer said I hit something which caused a puncture in the sidewall and they would not replace it... They are history (tires and the dealership)... bought my Michelin tires, same kind as the ones I had on my 94 trooper and that has been my only repair cost beside a fan belt...

General Comments:

Its performance in the sand on the beach is second to none... compared to my 94 Trooper it was like I was gliding on top of the sand...

My complaints are they changed the placement of the horn on me, and it seems my 94 was wider.

The gas mileage has never been to my liking; 13-17mpg, mostly 13-14 mpg...

The headroom and the driver's seat that allows for the knees to bend is one of my favorites.

The cargo room is tops, and off road it has been a beast (absolute 10).

2002 Isuzu Trooper 3.5L V6

Summary:

Absolutely wonderful!

Faults:

Other than a little squeak in the left rear window, absolutely nothing at all.

General Comments:

The previous Isuzu Rodeo that we had was absolute junk that broke down all the time & cost a fortune in repairs. It was built in Indiana & not in Japan like the Trooper. WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY!!! No oil leaks, no smoke coming from the hood or ticking noises from the engine. It's kind of sad that the Troopers built in Japan are so much better in quality versus the Rodeo that's built right here in the U.S. If you want a great bargain & have the money to spend on gas, the Trooper is a much cheaper alternative to buying a Toyota 4Runner. I hope the new Troopers that Isuzu comes out with in the near future are built in Japan as well.

Great comment on the Trooper. I have a 2001 with 71,000 miles on it and this truck is nice. I have owned a 4-Runner and this car can match up with it easily. It is big on gas and boxy, but it is a pleasure to drive.

I own a 2002 Trooper, and am very satisfied with it, though I hate Isuzu North America. Since they were purchased by GM, and their product line supplanted with TrailBlazers (Ascenders), their level of interest in maintaining a Japanese vehicle has dropped off to nothing. Fortunately, my beloved Trooper has never broken. Not once, and it does not use any oil between changes. Very fortunately, my local lube shop is managed by a former Isuzu tech who was let go after he admitted his disdain for Isuzu's new clone line of rebadged American trash. He takes care of my maintenance. I look forward too many years of good service from my beloved

Gooper, moving into the night loaded with snowboards and skis, or crawling into the Arizona desert. May it live forever.

2002 Isuzu Trooper S 3.5L

Summary:

Comfortable family truck with serious off-roading capabilities

Faults:

The only minor thing that we had trouble with on this car was at about 8000 miles, The TOD light came on. We went to the dealer and they could not duplicate the condition and it hasn't happened since. I've got my fingers crossed. We had a 1994 Trooper before this, and it ran excellent until we sold it at 115,000.

General Comments:

This is a great truck. I rated performance high (9) not because of 0-60 times or 1/4 mile. I did so because off road, this baby is rock solid. I feel totally at ease taking my family "back in the woods". It always starts and is decent on road. It actually handles quite well, despite some very negative press. You just have to keep in mind that this is no sports car. I wish Isuzu would build a new Trooper and ditch the Ass-ender.
