2003 Jaguar XJR 4.0L supercharged V8 gasoline

Summary:

Beautiful machine with the power to blow people away!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

These cars are a hidden gem! Most people don't know about the XJR, which is a supercharged beast! Sexy car, very luxurious, comfortable, beautiful! Then step on the gas... and the 370hp V8 growls and puts you back in your seat! I recommend this car as a 2nd car, not a primary family machine.

Can you give an update on your Jag? You gave a glowing review of a car you've driven ALL OF 500 miles. Tell us how it's been the past 3 years, please.

Yes. And don't forget to mention how many $$$'s...er, I mean, "people" it has blown away.

2003 Jaguar XJR R1 V8 SC

Summary:

A sleeper Generation X luxury muscle car

Faults:

Tilt steering column doesn't work. I am constantly having to change the fuse after having it repaired before buying the car.

Driver's seat doesn't work. I believe the seat & steering are on the same circuit.

The ABS/ASC/traction control light comes on at start up, and stays on, then disappears. This still hasn't diminished my love for this car.

General Comments:

This is my 2nd XJR. I lost my 1st XJR in the floods of the Atlanta in SEP 09. I only had the car for two weeks, but I was in love with the car, so I decided to buy it again, and I'm glad I did!

The 1st XJR was an 01 with Carnival Red paint and Tan leather. I lucked out and found an 03 with the R1 package (Anthracite Black with tan leather) only a month later.

I would like to start off by saying this is probably one of the fastest below the radar cars on the streets today. The performance of this car is blistering. The power delivery is instant from the supercharger "NO LAG". If there is a downside, it is the size of the gas tank. It is relatively small for a car of this weight and size. You can only cruise a distance of 240 miles before needing to refill.

The sound isolation is very good; you can barely hear the car during normal driving, but floor it and the supercharger whine and exhaust system blend together to create a beautiful purr.

As for the CATS suspension systems; it works very well at keeping very stable at high speeds, while making the car very agile in sharp bending curves.

At low speeds the suspension soaks up bumps pretty well. On the downside though, the suspension can send a jolting feel through the steering column on hard separated pavement.

I rate the interior as top shelf on the level of a Rolls/Bentley for the working rich. There is only the finest level of materials, from the dashboard, to the center console, to the carpeting.

I love how the car has a dual personality of being a high performance car, and then in a split second turns into a mature luxury cruiser.

I believe the Jaguar XJR from 2001 through 2003 represents the best used car value in the sports luxury market in the last 15 years.
