1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0L 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great vehicle at a great price

Faults:

The fog lights don't work.

The windshield wipers over extend in very wet conditions.

Minor oil leak soon after it was purchased.

Front leather seats are a little worn.

Has problems starting in very cold weather.

Headlights are supposed to shut off every time on a timer, but sometimes they shut off right away.

Carpet is worn in front of the drivers side seat.

General Comments:

I really love this Jeep. It's not luxurious, but it is a sturdy auto mobile. It is comfortable for all passengers. Leather seats get chilly in the cold.

The heat and air conditioner work great! The heat is pretty warm after letting the Jeep warm up only after 10 minutes.

It is awesome in the snow as long as the four wheel drive is on. It also has great handling on icy roads with four wheel drive engaged.

It is not a good highway vehicle. It begins to shake a little at about 50 mph. It really starts to shake over 70mph.

For a used car it is in awesome shape! I have only spent money on oil changes, inspections, and filter replacements since I purchased the Jeep.

Wish there was room for cup holders! But there is plenty of storage space.

1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0L I6

Summary:

A brick with wheels, don't expect much luxury

Faults:

The radiator began leaking, and eventually had to be replaced at approximately 125,000 miles. At the same time rear brake drums, cylinders, and shoes had to be replaced. Overall however, those are the only maintenance problems I have had since I bought it.

On the subject interior, the heat notch on the climate control has broken, but heat will come out of the vents under "vent". Also, the premium speakers that were factory installed have begun to wear out at about 118,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very good SUV. The part time 4 wheel drive is excellent in the snow. The car has also been in a series of accidents, and only exterior body repairs were necessary. Though the engine may sound quite finicky, it is generally reliable.

My Jeep Cherokee Laredo (92) has a little over 128,000 miles on it. I bought it in August 2002 and have had little problems with it. The previous owners must have taken good care of it. Minor oil leak due to valve cover needing to be replaced. It takes about 150 miles a week on it, driven mostly on New Hampshire back roads. It is very good in the snow, as long as the four wheel drive is on. It slides all over the place in the snow if the four wheel drive is off. I think if this Jeep is maintained on a normal basis there will be no major problems. However, the fog lights do not work, the windshield wipers over extend when the windshield is very wet, it has problems starting at times in very cold temperatures (but it may just need a new gas filter), and it is not a good highway vehicle.

1992 Jeep Cherokee 1993 Sport 4.0L

Summary:

The best SUV ever made, but you had better get the straight 6.

Faults:

Replaced water pump at 97,000 miles and again at 190,000 miles.

Replaced radiator at 130,000 miles.

Replaced alternator at 85000 miles.

Replaced driver seat at 200,000 miles (Junkyard part for 1/3 dealer price)

Replaced catalytic converter at 250,000 miles.

Replaced muffler at 220,000 miles.

Replaced thermostat at 97,000 miles.

Replaced 2 ball joints at 312,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is a BEAST.

Over 300K miles and still rolling.

Engine is very easy to work on.

Great in the snow and mud.

Not a speed demon, but handles well.

A little road noise, but a decent stereo with the volume on low covers it up well.
