Faults:

- Transfer case leaks fluid.

- Had to replace the alternator.

- Distributor needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

I live in Colorado and it is a beast in the hills. 4WD works great and can conquer most anything. Drives excellent in the snow and has a great heater.

The thing I love most about the Cherokee is that it is very easy to work on yourself, so with any motivation you can save some money by doing the repairs yourself.

Not necessarily a great commuter, as it gets somewhat bad gas mileage, but for everything else the torquey 4.0L will get the job done no problem.

Overall it is has been a fun car to own.

Faults:

Replaced rear brake seal.

Replaced fan.

Third tranny fluid change.

Replace entire exhaust.

Tranny stuck in 3rd.

All of the above happened after 297000 miles.

General Comments:

What is weird to me is that I have a 95 Laredo, and I got my first issue at close to 240,000 miles! I was in love with my truck. I am now experiencing the stuck in third gear, fan not spinning and stalling at stop lights. But I can't get mad after all this time.

It seems odd to me that everyone is getting issues with newer and less mileage Jeeps. I thought the "bugs" were supposed to be worked out, not in.

Faults:

Crank sensor... 148,000kms... cheap fix ($80.00) located on bell housing.

Oil pressure switch... hit it tightening the oil filter... (150,000kms) ($15.00) located above filter.

Door hinges are going to need some welding soon.

First owner said jeep had minor problems... I think something on the lines of a windshield level sensor having to be replaced a few times...

General Comments:

Great vehicle to take you to that fishing hole and get you through all the puddles and what ever else you encounter... perfect for camping trips... and who cares if you put a few dents in the old girl...

Faults:

Hydraulic lifts went out on hatchback early on.

General Comments:

After 12 years I can't imagine giving up my Jeep. I bought my 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4-Door) off the lot in Chicago (June, '95). I had a crazy job for a couple years that kept me out of the country for months at a time, so it would sit idle; consequently, it now has just less than 60,000 miles on it. Always kept up with regular oil changes, replaced the tires once, ditto the brakes, and early on had to replace the hydraulic lifts on the hatchback… and that's IT! It's hard to believe it's 12 years old, and people who know autos notice what great shape it's in. I'm not a 'car' person, but I am a Jeep girl, for sure. Can't see myself ever getting rid of it. It doesn't get the best gas mileage, but it's not nearly as bad as the new Jeeps - when I go out of town, I always rent a Jeep, and while I like some of the newer models (except the boxy one), they're guzzlers. The '95 console is dated (and poorly lit, okay) and the little storage compartment between the front bucket seats is ridiculously engineered, but I like the analog odometer, love the small size/easy parking, and it's got a low profile making it easy to get my bikes on and off the top rack. Lots to love about this little wonder-mobile. Gets around in the snow, and just about everywhere else - and it's cute. It dents easily, which always bugged me (what were they thinking?), but I love my little red Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4. It's a classic!
