1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 H.O.

Summary:

Great and reliable

Faults:

The Jeep is a 95 Cherokee with a 4 inch superlift, 4.56 gears front and rear, with a Detroit locker in the rear. Sitting on 32 inch pro comps.

It has been a wheeling truck since 125,000 miles. I bought it from someone I knew.

At 170,000, I blew a head gasket, MUDDING of course.

At 173,000, I killed all eight track arm bushings on the front axle. Bent a front driveshaft, and replaced the hubs, even though they weren't too bad. This is all because of MORE MUDDING.

General Comments:

These things go forever if you treat them well. My last Jeep was 1991 Jeep Cherokee automatic 4 liter, and I blew an oil pump mudding with 230,000 miles.

I do not hesitate to hold back on my Jeeps. So stuff breaks. Jeepers creed: BUILD IT, DRIVE IT, BREAK IT, FIX IT, REPEAT!

But overall, pretty much one of the most solid SUVs out there in the American market. Japan doesn't even come close.

1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 litre 6 cylinder

Summary:

This is a very low maintenance and versatile vehicle

Faults:

Driver door hinge replaced at 80000 miles.

Oxygen sensor replaced at 100000 miles.

Motor mounts replaced 4 times between 100000 and 177000 miles.

General Comments:

I have had particular problems with motor mounts repeatedly breaking. I do live in Colorado and use it for light off road use, but nothing hairy enough to warranty 4 episodes.

Outside of the motor mount problem, this is a super vehicle. Inexpensive to maintain and insure and very friendly on the highway as well as off road.

The engine is packs a lot of torque, although get in the slow lane heading up hills (especially at altitude here in CO) as it will be sucking wind to maintain highway speeds.

1995 Jeep Cherokee Country 4.0L Inline Six

Faults:

Let's see...

The Jeep has had an overheating problem since we bought it. We have replaced every single hose on the thing, and the water pump, and had the radiator flushed and it still overheats. There was a "play-doh" like substance in the radiator that all the mechanics in the area could not explain.

The transfer case has leaked for about 4 years now, and they told us that when it goes, the transmission goes as well. This will total the Jeep.

The brakes constantly squeal, and nothing helps that. They are brand new.

The radio display keeps flicking on and off.

The a/c vents will not stay where you put them.

The 4 Wheel Drive is a joke. You may as well get out and walk, you'll get there faster. It spins on dry grass.

The Jeep has had probably $6000.00 of work on the engine alone, just for hoses, water pumps, fuel pumps, etc...

In the last 3 years.

General Comments:

The Jeep does NOT drive comfortably, it's VERY stiff and if you take a curve too quickly (around 10 m.p.h.) it wants to tip over.

Everyone says Jeep's are great in snow, but they never owned this one.

The Jeep is a piece of crap, and I will NEVER EVER buy another Jeep.

I regularly drive around tight ineterstate exit cloverleafs at >45mph without tipping my jeep over, so obviously your problem isn't the Jeep, its you and no you shouldn't buy another Jeep since you obviously don't know how to maintain it.

I'll offer a hint about your overheating problem... forget the flushing. With a '94, just replace the radiator. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, you can do it yourself for under $150. Any sludge that didn't come out with a flush is probably blocking your cooling vents inside. If it overheats while driving down the road, it's a sure sign of a bad radiator. As far as the bad ride is concerned, it's a Jeep thing. Might as well see it as a truck rather than a suburban SUV. I have a '94 also and it'll pull anything reasonable, haul any dirty loads that pretty boys won't put in their $30,000 trucks, and will outlast most other American vehicles with it's indestructible 4.0.
