Faults:

Water pump blew at 40000 miles.

Pinion gear replaced at 80000 miles.

Torque converter came loose.

Passenger window regulator shot at 80000 miles.

Power steering pump at 100000 miles.

Harmonic balancer broke at 140000 miles.

Alternator replaced at 140000 miles.

General Comments:

I am in love with my Jeep.

I have owned this Jeep for 13 years, and been thru good times and bad times. Have had numerous issues with it, but this machine is the best vehicle I have ever had.

I just love to drive it. Visibility is good, power is good, easy to find parts for, and has a very "classy look".

Faults:

Beyond the normal wear items (belts, brakes, shocks, lights, etc), I have worked through the following:

Cam shaft position sensor (the car would not start) at 190k.

Small oil leaks.

Electrical wire cut in rear hatch.

Stereo stopped playing CD's.

Driver seat frame broken.

General Comments:

For what this SUV does and what it has been through, this is a great vehicle. This has seen a lot of miles, has been on a lot of dirt roads, has been on four wheeling roads, and has towed fairly heavy trailers. This Jeep has held up very well with few issues, especially compared to the miles. The exterior is still above what is expected, with only a few small areas that I feel are due to aging. The power is quite strong, and it is quick for an SUV. A little under powered for towing, but it only weighs 3300 pounds.

The SUV is pretty small for a 6' guy like me, but works. I was not pleased with the broken seat frame, but the previous owner was a heavy man. The stereo is sub-par, but at least the radio works. All electronics still work and everything mechanically is very strong (motor, tranny, t-case, etc).

Overall, one of the most reliable, basic vehicles I have owned. These Jeeps should be considered the standard in small SUVs.

Faults:

Fuel pump and radiator failed at 186,000.

Misfire on two cylinders at 220,000.

Broken A/C, but bought it that way.

Throttle sensor failed at 250,000.

Great car for logging roads, quarry work, and plowing through deep snow.

Not great on gas, but it only cost $2,900 at 146,000 miles, and has averaged less than $1000 per year in maintenance and repairs - including replacing the tires, wipers, having the brakes redone, and a tune up every year. A wonderful car.

I have another Jeep - a 2000 Cherokee, but the head, radiator and manifold all blew this summer at only 218,000 miles. A disappointment.

Faults:

The door window motors had to be replaced when I purchased, and was still covered by the warranty.

I had to have the brakes replaced at 85,000, which was not surprising as I live in the mountains and they get a workout.

The water pump was replaced at around the same time.

Other than that I have taken very good care of her, making sure that all routine maintenance was performed in a timely manner.

There are a few things beginning to need attention, the automatic door locks recently stopped working, and blinker needs attention, it blinks fast but bulb is working.

General Comments:

I got my car in 2000, it was two years old and has been exceptionally dependable to me throughout the years. I have had her almost 10 years now and am still taking major trip with her without any fear. I don't think I will ever be able to get rid of her, although I'm told it may be time to consider a new vehicle. The newer Jeeps are not appealing to me, so I am not sure what I will do.

I have the computer in mine, and it has been invaluable to me for long trips, and looking for icy conditions. Although not luxurious inside, it is very comfortable and nothing has broken down in the interior. My Jeep is definitely a workhorse, getting me through the worst snow blizzards and desert 120+ degree weather.

I wish they were still making this model.
