2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 inline six

Summary:

Awesome on, and mainly off the road

Faults:

The AC compressor blew, weak fuel pump, rough idle when started cold, and that about it.

General Comments:

I love the thing. I love the Silverstone paint job and the stock 4X4 capabilities. I've gone through some super deep sand no problem that other 4X4 trucks have problems in.

Anyway, it's never gotten me stuck, and I use it off road at least once a month, either at the beach or the hill country.

The interior is simple yet functional. The seats are comfortable for short trips, but when the trips get over 4 hours, they get a little painful, but not bad.

Oh boy, let's talk about that inline 4.0. It's a beast. About 200 hp and 225 ft lbs, and the Jeep weighs in at about 3200lbs. Also, I added a K&N filter, which may have helped a little; this thing will go for an SUV. I've done over 115mph in it no problem (I'm guessing because the speedo goes to 100). If you punch it, it'll bark the tires most of the time.

Also, I did a little race from 0 to about 50mph against a 2006 F150 with the 4.6 V8, and he didn't stand a chance.

It's a real shame they quit making these on and off road wonders.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 I-6

Summary:

Rugged, but reliable

Faults:

A/C compressor replaced at 90,000 miles.

Evaporator went at 120,000 miles; never got it fixed.

General Comments:

I can't believe all of you complaining about the screeching at 5 miles an hour in a parking lot, thinking it is the steering. If you hadn't noticed, these Jeeps have solid axles in the front, and when you turn at slow speeds, the tires screech because of it, when parking, etc.

I have had my jeep for 176,200 miles, and haven't had many issues. It still has above average power, and it can tow a decent sized boat (with trailer brakes) still.

I have some small issues; the power window lock button doesn't work, so the windows can only be operated by the driver, the drivers side rear door doesn't open anymore, but they are all little things that I don't care to fix.

The fact is this is a very reliable SUV that is good for 200,000 miles at least. I challenge you to find another SUV with that kind of reliability and drivability. If you maintain a car well, it will last long, as simple as that.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0

Summary:

One of the best vehicles out there!

Faults:

All problems I have encountered have resulted from the Cherokee sitting for almost a year.

Alternator

Brake/brake pads

Air Conditioner

Rust appearing in doors

Paint blistering in some areas.

General Comments:

I am in love!

This thing runs strong, and I give it credit for all the crap it has gone through.

The gas mileage isn't the greatest, but for someone like me, its not too bad, only traveling to work and back, plus appointments, the farthest of which are 30 miles away.

It's big enough to haul whatever my little heart desires, but small enough that I don't have to worry about the sheer size.

The interior is perfect, although a speaker is going a little crazy. The seats are pretty comfy, and the back a little less because of the lack of headrests.

The Jeep Cherokee can handle whatever I have thrown at it, including paved roads, dirt roads, mud, puddles, and of course, off-road terrain.

I have very little complaints with this vehicle and cannot use words to express how much I love it and it means to me.

I am still wondering why they would discontinue such a awesome, widely known vehicle. The Patriot seems to be the "replacement", but I think in order for it to take off, Jeep should slap some rectangle headlights on it and call it the Cherokee. (personal opinion, no comments, please)
