2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0

Summary:

Great SUV for the money

Faults:

Driver side seat vinyl is cracked.

General Comments:

This is my first SUV.

I am very surprised by its low end performance and handling. I think this is due to its relatively light weight.

It is a little noisier than what I am used to (my Maxima) I do hear a faint gear/drive-train whining noise.

The only comfort complaint I have is that it does not have a dead pedal to rest your left foot.

Gas mileage should be better for what it weighs.

Overall, I really like the Cherokee. It has nice, clean design. I just added 17" wheels and tires, which makes it look even better!.

I don't think I would have bought any other SUV. It was either the Cherokee or another car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

The reason the Jeep vehicles have that "faint noise" in the drive train is not because of design flaws or potential problems. Jeep used to be a major military supplier during World War 2 until the early 1980's. Jeep still uses thier old technology in thier engines, the only thing they have really done was take the old fashioned engine and drive train and incorporated it with new technology and mixed it all together. The fact that thier engine and drive train stay the same is because it has been proven time and again in 3 major wars and Jeep has never failed. They were designed to go under decades of hard use and still stay in operational shape. I see many Jeep Cherokees from the late 80's still operating at 300,000 miles on them. Super high mileage for any Jeep is a typical life span for them.

Summary:

Great car, but I wish I had bought a wrangler instead

Faults:

When I first purchased my jeep cherokee I noticed squeky sounds in the rear every time I go over bumps on the road. I brought the jeep back to the dealer where I purchased it and they replaced the rear shocks at no charge. At the present time I am not having no problems.

General Comments:

The Jeep cherokee is very responsive, it feels like driving a sports car.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 I6

Summary:

American Ingenuity at it's Best - POS!

Faults:

I owned 4 foreign cars before this jeep, and always heard the horror stories about American cars breaking down, stupid little things like doors locks etc that just stop working etc...

Well, I have 41,700 miles on this Jeep and it's been in the shop for these exact kind of problems roughly 6 times. 3 of the 5 doors have at one point in time had issues opening only when they felt like it. Windshield wipers just stopped working. 2 of the windows at random times decide to open and close on their own (they still do, dealer hasn't "found a problem with them"). And the latest one left me stranded with a $80.00 tow job and a $250.00 repair just a couple thousand miles outside of factory warranty (and the $1,200.00 100K mile warranty I bought didn't cover this either). The ignition cylinoid had to be replaced and re-coded. Car ran fine, but you couldn't tell because you couldn't turn the damn key to start it.

Anyway, that's my experience so far, and the car still has another year+ on the LEASE - So I get to fix Chrysler's car with their problems and my money...

General Comments:

This is my first American car and most definetly my last.

It sounds to me like you made up your mind before you even bought the vehicle. If this country is so bad at doing things, why don't you just move out? Maybe other countries would not allow you to bash them the way you bash this one...? I could tell you a million horror stories about your beloved foreign cars, and those problems cost five times as much to fix.
