Faults:

I just purchased this 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and have had few issues.

I can tell that the brakes will need to be done, but after reading the other posts, it does not seem as if this is a rare occurrence, and I have no idea when they have been serviced last or at all.

The engine is noisy, but I kind of figured that it would be with being a straight six and the lower end of the Jeep Cherokee line.

The truck seems as if it is a work horse.

I live in Nevada, and you know that it is hot hot hot out here, so the trim on the door is starting to fall off, but again to be expected with the intense heat that we get here.

Maybe I am one of the lucky ones (so far) and will not have the issues reported by others.

Also someone may have really taken care of this used SUV. So far I have been pleased.

The gas mileage could be improved, so I am gonna flush everything in the truck, and give it a tune up, and I have looked into the performance chips, so if anyone has feedback on the performance chip, I would love to know what your thoughts are on those, because I have never installed one before. Is it worth the money or not? I am not expecting great things like an improvement of 15 more mpg, but 3 to 4 would be nice. Well happy driving, and please let me know about the performance chips.

Faults:

The key would not turn when placed in the ignition switch. After placing the key into the switch, I hit the key with the palm of my hand and it has worked perfectly ever since. Many posts have said to use a rubber mallet, which I did not have.

Also, if you have front end vibration, shaking or a wobble between 55 and 60 MPH, check each front U-joint for the 4WD. On two of my Jeeps, they were slightly frozen, dry from lubrication. After replacement, absolutely no wobble, shake or vibration at all. The U-joint was about $10.00 and not to difficult to replace.

General Comments:

Excellent vehicle to own, and easy to work on.

Faults:

Repaired the following as soon as I purchased the Jeep with 93k miles:

Front right speaker wire is loose.

02 sensor went and A/C had leak.

Steering stabilizer was no good and was replaced.

Jeep had strange idle at first like it was going to stall. Replaced spark plugs and put fuel system cleaner in the gas tank. I think the fuel filter is dirty, but I did not feel like replacing the fuel filter yet because it is located in the gas tank.

Wasn't happy with the stock tape deck and replaced it with a Pioneer CD/MP3/iPod deck, which also made the sound a lot clearer.

General Comments:

Bought this car as a winter beater. Overall for having 98k miles on the Cherokee, it still drives strong. I am very impressed with the 4x4 when going off-road. This will be a fun vehicle to drive in the winter compared to my rear-wheel drive Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Decent amount of space inside. The rear seats are very small and I am glad to be the driver for this reason.

Fixed the 02 sensor myself, and fixed the A/C leak with some Stopleak from Auto Zone.

The front speakers still need to be rewired.

Besides some minor repairs, I think this was a good buy for the New England winters.
