General Comments:
All in all I have enjoyed my jeep however as a college kid working full time I cannot afford the gas little own the little problems that keep occurring. I am a two time jeep owner and both vehicles have given me trouble with general reliability. My first Jeep Cherokee, (a 1987 with 190000 when purchased), was a money vacuum for 6 of the 23 months I owned it, (primarily due to the constant off-roading and trail climbing I did with it). However after putting the mileage up to 233000 miles and beating on it as hard as I could I still sold if for 1000 bucks. However I have to say it seems that the only problems that I have witnessed have all been minor. I have yet to see anyone I know kill their jeep altogether. It just seems impossible. Buyer beware of occasional high costing maintenance parts, however if you have any mechanical aptitude you can fix most minor problems yourself. It is a fairly easy vehicle to work on and so worth owning at least once in your life. Just be prepared to pay out a little and you'll understand what "It's a Jeep thing" really means.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I also own an '01 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I don't understand your gas mileage issue... I get exactly 20 MPG highway and 15 MPG city driving. I can only understand this if you are constantly accelerating quickly.
I have had problems with my front driver side speaker not working and my headlights falling out of place.
I hope you have had the recall work done on your Jeep! www.nhtsa.gov It took about 2 hours to complete the work on my Jeep, and didn't cost me a cent.
I can't say I have had any other mechanical problems with my Jeep... I've got 80,000 miles on it so far!
