General Comments:

I took this car over from my girlfriend and it is nothing, but problems. Even though it has 17300 miles; I believe the Japan competitors could put 200000+ miles without major problems. Right now the car runs and starts, but is in need of repair. I hear a clicking sound if I turn the wheel all the way to right or left. Anybody know what this is? Also A/C compressor stopped spinning when engine is on. Could be the compressor clutch, but not sure. I hear of the transmissions have a tendency to fail. I am wondering if I should get rid of the car now or put some money into it and see how far it will get me. Any opinions.

Faults:

Transfer case seals replaced at 75,000 and 100,000 miles.

Evaporator Coil replaced at 77,000 miles.

Oil seals in the engine are currently leaking.

General Comments:

I have been the only owner of this vehicle and logged just about every one of the 177,000 miles that it currently has on it. This vehicle has been very reliable and comfortable. In the past three thousand miles, it has started to show its age and I am starting to have some engine oil leaks. Other than, it is still rock solid and will keep on going with regular maintenance.

The advantages of an SUV are there. Good vision, all weather control and roomyness. It is not as large as the big SUV's and therefore is easier to drive around town and in parking lots.

The handling is much better than the Explorer and it gives much more feedback while corning.

I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for an SUV that is comfortable and powerful, yet doesn't require side rails to enter and egress.

Faults:

Transfer case work at 80,000 miles.

Transmission went at 83,000 miles.

Rear window wiper stopped working at about 30,000 miles.

General Comments:

The 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has been a great car in the long run. Aside from the few things that has gone wrong with it, it has been reliable and the V8 is a power house.

On long road trips it is very comfortable.

The only downside to owning the 5.2L V8 is the gas mileage is terrible. In Manhattan I only get approximately 9-12 m.p.g. On the highways I get around 18-20 m.p.g.

Faults:

We replaced the O-ring on the AC. $250+. Nope that wasn't the problem. The freon leaked out a week later. Another mechanic, a friend of ours, fixed it for free. After 3 months in working order, apparently the AC clutch is now broke. We'll find out tomorrow what the cost of that will be.

The CV boots need to be replaced.

General Comments:

We have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. White with Gold Trim. The body is in perfect condition. It looks brand new.

Interior is in great condition too.

The air conditioner.

Has Jeep done anything to address this obvious manufacturer defect. The first mechanic said I need new O-rings. Cost me $250. It broke again 1 week later. Went back to mechanic for refund. He said Sorry I thought that was the problem. No refund. Now I have to have the AC clutch replaced.

I am hoping that we can get this AC issue squared away, so I can sell this thing before the Transmission goes on it. Sounds like it is inevitable.

The Jeep is a beautiful SUV. Inside and out. There seems to be a theme of repairs here though. If anyone has info on recall or class action against Chrysler or Jeep please let everyone know.
