1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Summary:

One tough vehicle

Faults:

We have only had to service this Jeep one time in 3 years. That was the water pump went at 182,000. It was very difficult to change due to the clutch on it being hard to get off. Other than that, this is one of the most reliable vehicles we have owned. Gas mileage is about 18 miles on the highway. Slightly lower in the city. Not bad for a Quadra-Trac.

I do find the leather seats very uncomfortable in long distances. The seat bottoms are too short resulting in leg discomfort. The cargo space is well equipped for hauling items.

It has handles impeccable on the road in all types of weather. Tires wear evenly. All around great vehicle from our point of view.

General Comments:

Engine keeps going and going... made tough and built to last.

Handles the road with ease.

Fun to drive.

Excellent factory sound system.

Gas mileage is satisfactory for a four wheel drive vehicle.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD V8

Summary:

Poor

Faults:

Replaced CV boot twice (passenger side).

Passenger side tire always wears out faster than the others, in spite after alignment.

Had several problems with the AC (it's a nightmare and still continues). First, the dealer replaced the evaporator for they claimed that is where the leak was. After a two weeks, it went out again and they claimed this time it was the accumulator.

After a year, it went out again. Dealer said it is the AC line that is having leak. After replacing it, they told me that the compressor is also bad.

So far I have had nothing but trouble with the AC. After spending literally over $1000.00 on the AC alone and not the parts being replaced that were really necessary, I've had it.

General Comments:

A money pit.

Gas mileage is not very good.

Even lower than the review.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

Dependable all-weather transportation

Faults:

Rings in rear cylinder seized at 38,000 miles. Dealer replaced with new short-block, no charge.

Cracked exhaust manifold, about 85,000 miles, now again at 120,000 miles. Will replace it with an after market product this time.

Transmission replaced at 98,000 miles. I may have contributed to this failure by shifting to neutral in the transfer case while the engine was running, then towing the vehicle behind my RV. Proper procedure is to shift to neutral, then start the engine to make certain the transfer case is actually in neutral.

General Comments:

Good vehicle on snow and ice.

Driver's seat and leg room are a bit cramped. Not a good vehicle for a long drive. My wife is 5'3" and says she has plenty of room.

Body and paint still look good. A few rock dings, but the paint still has a high luster. Plastic armor has faded evenly and still looks good.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Inline 6

Summary:

Will look and run great for years

Faults:

Replaced fuel tank, fuel pump and water pump around 90,000 miles. Fixed a small oil leak at the oil filter base around 130,000. Engine and transmission bushings need to be replaced, but that's expected with this many miles.

General Comments:

Consider we've given this car the minimum amount of maintenance (i.e. oil changes), she's been very reliable. The first year was a little rough with two tows and $1,200 in repairs, but the last three years have been pretty much trouble free which is quite amazing considering that's with 100,000 plus miles. I spent the same amount on my old late 90s Accord in one year than I have on this Jeep in 4--so much for the myth of superior Japanese quality!

Still looks great after all these years. One of the best cars you can buy, in my opinion.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L inline 6

Summary:

Get it with lest miles as possible

Faults:

Water pump went at 65000 miles

Original tires worn out very fast

Air conditioner went at about 65,000 problem with most Jeeps.

3 batteries in 7 years.

Rear wiper also stopped working.

Heater stopped working also around 100,000 miles.

Radiator leaks aroung 100,000 had to be replaced U$400.

Oil leaks stated on 80,000 I add oil occasionally.

General Comments:

Poor gas mileage if you are planning on driving in the city. Good vehicle in the snow, Do not get one that is ALL Wheel drive, the option to engage into 4x4 will save your vehicle. One thing that I always do with my cars is that I add ZMAX to the engine and fuel system and do a tune up on 100,000 also changed the oil at every 3,000 miles.
