1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

Ideal dream car at a great price

Faults:

When I first bought it, it was leaking water inside on the passenger side.

The pulley for the belts on the crank shaft broke, which took out the serpentine belt.

The whole piece that holds the license plate and light fell off.

It keeps blowing out fuses for the fog lights.

General Comments:

The Jeep had an excellent drive, handles very well, very reliable and dependable.

Has a very comfortable ride, Air conditioning is very cold.

Once we fixed it have had no more problems with it.

It drives like a dream.

Am very happy and satisfied with my Jeep.

When certain streets flooded it drove through them like a pro, without any problems.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 4.0

Summary:

Great value for lots of extras. We love it

Faults:

The brake rotors needed to be replaced at 70,000 miles.

Rear shocks needed replacing at 75,000 miles.

Transmission shifts rough over 9,000 feet.

General Comments:

This small SUV handles and out performs any other vehicle I test drove or have rented. Smoother than any Ford product, more comfortable than the 4runner, Explorer or Pathfinder. It was a great value for how it is loaded. Off road it handles great and it tows without a problem. It was voted the best four wheel, light SUV by JD Powers in 1998 and it deserves it. It is stable and never feel like it will tip over, something I feel whenever I ride in any of the other small SUVs. When I had the suspension replaced, the tech told me he sees fewer of these for general repairs than any other SUV.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition 4.0L

Summary:

Top notch deal and great performance!

Faults:

I had to replace the serpentine belt.

Recently, I had to replace spark plugs and spark plug wires.

These are usual maintenance service that a vehicle requires and the previous parts were the originals.

General Comments:

This vehicle is loaded, reliable, comfortable, and affordable.

Bought it at a very reasonable price for a used vehicle and have enjoyed it more and more every day.

The ride is comparable with my previous Buick Le Sabre.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder

Summary:

Love it!

Faults:

If I turn the engine off before turning the headlights out, the headlights stay on until I turn it to on position again and then back to off. WEIRD, but not really a problem.

Most recently it has been hot and I have been running my AC a lot. My Jeep started to smell weird, smoldering in the heat. I went to look for the problem and when I lifted up my driver's side floormat, it was completely soaked and had some mold growing under it. It still seems to be leaking a little but I don't know where from and why. Any suggestions? My guess is that an AC hose is cracked or something. If I remember to turn off the AC before parking, it doesn't seem to be that bad.

General Comments:

Overall, if anything were seriously wrong with this Jeep, I would trade it in on a brand new one with an extended warranty because I love it so much. This is a great, reliable vehicle even if it has a few minor quirks. I bought it used and could not expect a better car.

I am just going to comment on the two problems that I see you having.

First of all your lights are meant to do that. I have an 89 Cherokee with the same thing. They will automatically shut off after a minute or so. This is nice when you pull up to your house late at night and want to find your house keys.

Anyways, about the floorboards being wet by the front seat. My brother had this same problem in his 95 Cherokee. After being in the dealer a couple of times it turned out to be the front windshield was installed slightly incorrectly. That might be a good place to start.
