2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder

Summary:

Too many problems

Faults:

We have had numerous door lock problems as well as the ever present brake problems that so many other jeep owners have.

The most recent problem is the grand daddy of them all. The computer brain has been replaced twice in six weeks along with all the computer modules. Most all wires have been traced. Still all the dash warning lights will come on, all gages either jump or just go dead. After six weeks the dealer has called uncle. They cannot find the short. So the vehicle is usless at this point.

Emails to Chrysler just fall on deaf ears. $32,000 vehicle and it is done before 100,000 miles. No wonder the foreign cars have taken over. And this vehicle has never missed a service and has always had all repairs done at a Jeep dealership.

Another problem with the Jeep is that it would go through a battery every two years.

My 2000 Grand Cherokee Jeep Laredo is a lemon. I have had constant mechanical issues for years.

For the last 3 years, a mysterious coolant leak has caused me to put water/coolant in about every 100 miles. Now oil pressure is dropping to about zero when I come to a stop sign or slow way down.

Running brake lights, left side, have quit working numerous times - and bulbs have been replaced over and over - until I found that the contacts in the bulb socket area needed to be adjusted.

Both back door locks quit working years ago, causing me to have to turn around and manually move levers.

Back hatch has crashed down numerous times, with repairs.

Front hood refuses to stay up.

Plastic fan melted last year (years before, we were reimbursed for a fan/shroud problem).

My vehicle now has 134,000 miles, but I dread any trip over 20 miles...

Summary:

A lemon

Faults:

WOW, I thought this jeep was a lemon, but apparently everyone else has been having the same problems.

Since my family bought the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, we have replaced the engine, the water pump three times, and the brakes three times.

The lock on the back hatch door went out; that cost almost 500 to fix.

Now the front driver side lock has gone out, and it makes a loud noise when I lock or unlock the doors.

Now last night when I went to drive home, it started making a new noise and vibration when it idles, and when you start to go, it sounds like the engine is about to fall out; not quite sure what that is yet.

General Comments:

Besides all of the mechanical problems, I love my Jeep. It is very comfortable and rides well when working properly. It's durable.

Summary:

A beast in the snow, beats my wifes HUMMER

Faults:

Overheating FIX!! Jan 2007 I had a overheat, replaced the thermostat which lasted a week, replaced with a fail safe which lasted 2 days, replaced fan at suggestion of dealer, not the problem, flushed rad system, not the prob... long and short I spend over $800.00 including installing a new rad.

Finally I was checking the overflow to see if it was flowing in and out of rad. It was flowing to rad, but not back, it actually blew coolant around the cap, which lead most people to believe it was a cracked rad cap or area around cap. Bought new cap.

PISSED OFF, FRUSTRATED and very close to BURNING the Jeep when I took the hose off the plastic coolant tank to check the hose and the nipple where the hose attach's appeared to be closed, just a pin hole for coolant to flow. Drilled with a 3/16 bit.. PROBLEM SOLVED, not a hitch in almost a year. 50 cent solution.

I am not a mechanic and am amazed I figured this out, but it should be 1 of the 1st things to check, cheap fix and hopefully the extend of your aggravation.

BERN TOBIN..Newfoundland, Canada. berntobin@yahoo.com let me know if this is ur prob.
