2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Summary:

A very dependable vehicle, rotors aren't

Faults:

My front left brake rotor warped at 26,000 miles. The small struts that keep the hood open have gone bad only 2 years after manufacture date.

General Comments:

I really enjoy this vehicle. It is fun to drive and is quite comfortable and stylish. Unfortunately the rotors for this make and model are a hassle.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 V8

Summary:

The Chicks dig it, but the wallet doesn't

Faults:

My Left Rear locking mechanism grinds. It works sometimes, but always grinds. Dealer says 200 Dollars.

My turn signals and hazards went out. Checked fuses and relays. Took it to dealer they said there was nothing wrong with it. I checked and they worked, for about 10 hours. Dealer charged me 40 dollars for a diagnostic. After much earchewing at the dealership I went home and inspected myself. Found loose wire in wiring harnass. Dealership wanted to charge me another 40 dollars for another diagnostic. The service sucked!

General Comments:

I like my Jeep it handles great. I've never had any brake problems except worn pads. It is an off road dream. THe electrical system could use some more reliability.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Summary:

Too many brake and transmission problems!

Faults:

10,000 miles - warped brake rotors repaired/replaced.

22,000 miles - warped brake rotors repaired/replaced.

38,000 miles - warped brake rotors repaired/replaced, transmission won't shift into 3rd gear in cold weather.

52,000 miles - warped brake rotors repaired/replaced, transmission still won't shift into 3rd gear in cold weather.

65,000 miles - warped brake rotors repaired/replaced, same transmission problem, dealer suggests a rebuild at a cost of $2,300.

51,000 miles - rear axle seal leak - repaired/replaced, transmission problem persists.

General Comments:

No one can diagnose the transmission problem, not even the dealer that suggested a rebuild at $2,300. The constant brake problems are so annoying that I'll never buy another Jeep or Chrysler problem. They need to find a new vendor for their brake system. With the F package of leather seats, sunroof, etc., it's the most comfortable SUV for the price, but I won't buy another Jeep.

I bought my 2000 Jeep Laredo because I totaled a 1999 Sebring convertible (which I had absolutely no problems with in 3 years), and suddenly felt uncomfortable in a smaller car. Ever since I've felt nothing, but uncomfortable! In the last 8 months I've replaced the front brake pads twice and the rotors once, along with the back brake pads once, and had the rotors re-surfaced once. I've replaced the serpentine belt, and had the back windshield wiper fixed, not to mention a new battery. My latest disasters that still remain un-fixed include an electrical problem with my rear brake lights, and my transmission not wanting to shift into 3rd gear in cold weather. I feel like I've been ripped off!! I've never had so many problems with a car ever!! Do these manufactures care at all that we've spent our hard earned money on piece of crap Jeeps? Apparently not...

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 8.2

Summary:

A luxury SUV with power if you need it

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

Had a 1998 Jeep that was totaled. This 2000 model cleaned up a lot of the small issues I had with the previous Jeep.

Everyone that has been in my car has liked it. It drives well and is comfortable on long trips.

Missing in action: There is no place in the front of the vehicle to tie down my kayak. I have to fish a line through the grille which is plastic.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 gas

Summary:

The best vehicle for portraying success without being ostentatious

Faults:

One head had to be replaced immediately after I bought it for unknown reasons. I had to convince the dealer to diagnose a very rough idle, which he called normal for the vehicle. Dealer replaced free of charge.

The leather on the steering wheel disintegrated at 50,000 miles. My extended warranty covered it for $50 surcharge.

The front rotors warp every 8-12,000 miles. I have learned how to replace them myself, saving serious money the last 4 times they were replaced.

General Comments:

This car is a great looking vehicle.

This car has great acceleration and handling.

I cannot believe they have such a serious problem with the brakes on this vehicle.
