Faults:

My fiance bought this Grand Cherokee new in 2000. It wasn't long before we started to have trouble with the brake pads warping and having to replace the pads every six months. This went on until my finace's death in 2006, at which time I inherited the Jeep.

The next time the pads started to warp and "lope", I went to the dealership and was VERY insistent that I would not be as passive as my fiance had been, and that I wanted this fixed once and for all!!! They replaced the rotors and pads, and gave me a lifetime warranty with it, tried to charge me $250, I refused, they did it for $50. I've had no problems since, but what a FIASCO for so many years!!!

Now, I have this "RATTLE" IN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE in the front end that nobody can diagnose! I was elated to see that someone else had written in about it! I can go over the smallest or largest bump, and it sounds like something small is rattling around in a small box or something!! I've taken it to two mechanics and they lift it up, check brakes, shocks, sway bar bushings... nothing!!! WHAT IS THIS NOISE THAT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts from anybody.

General Comments:

I really do like my Jeep, but I think that the way that the company deals with customer complaints and problems is very poor, like, unless it's an "official" recall, they don't want to hear about it, and that they haven't heard the complaint before from anyone else.

Faults:

I also have a 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo with brake light problems. Brake light works fine when the lights are not on, but when you press the brake pedal, the brake light goes off. I will try cleaning the contact in the tail light assy and put some aluminum behind the contact, and try to fix it, better than getting ripped off at the dealer.

Also had to replace the power window actuator that were making the growling noise in 3 of 4 doors. Had a friend do this, and it was less expensive.

Update 3rd Feb 2010:

I fixed the brake light problem. When lights are on and you press the brake, the brake light goes off. Removed the taillight assy, two screws and removed the brake light socket top socket, and inside the assy there are two contacts, one on one side, and two on the other. I folded aluminum foil and put on top of the single contact, and put the socket back in, worked like a charm, 10 minutes at most for the whole job. What a ripoff when they tell you a new assy is needed, and it costs a couple hundred when you only need aluminum added to make a good contact.
