2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8
Summary:
Bad engineering and quality control in manufacturing
Faults:
At about 24,000 miles my completed upgraded sound system went out (in dash CD, rear 10 CD player, speakers etc) and was replaced by the dealer.
My battery also went out post warranty and cost $162.00 to replace.
Very shortly after my 3 year warranty expired the driver's power window went out ($550.00 paid by me).
At about 29,000 miles my brake system went out and had to be redone ($650.00 out of my pocket). My three year warranty had expired.
A few months later, the passenger power window in the front went out ($580.00 out of my pocket).
My OBD warning light has been on for the last few weeks and there is nothing wrong with the car.
Lastly, as mentioned by many others, my left tail light has also gone out. There is nothing in the manual on how to replace it. You have to pay for a separate manual to get instruction as to where the bulb goes.
General Comments:
I love the size and handling of the car and it's extremely comfortable to drive.
Cargo space is great.
It's a shame with all the positive points that it is so expensive to maintain. Jeep should manufacture a more reliable auto or be held responsible for some of the malfunctions that should only occur in a much older car. Like the power windows, brakes etc. My car was only 3 or 4 years old when major repairs had to be made.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
