Faults:

The radiator thermostat housing had to be replaced because it was warped.

General Comments:

The car looks great and drives well in good weather and good roads. In bad weather or tough driving conditions it has the stopping response of a supertanker. Easy to wipe out and loose control.

The back seats have a nominal amount of leg room. They don't recline at all and the position is not comfortable for any ride over 15 or 20 minutes.

I have an Odyssey that is almost 10 years older with 100,000 more miles. We got the Jeep as a replacement family car meaning to replace the Odyssey with a smaller car. We still have the Odyssey because the Jeep is not comfortable at all for family rides and is not reliable.

Faults:

The only problem we have had so far with this vehicle was the rotors were warped. This was replaced at 21,000 miles. At around 18,000 miles the vehicle was started to make "jerky" stops. This was replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

Overall, this Jeep is one true performer. It's 4.7 High Output V8 has amazing power and performance. The 5-speed automatic transmission shifts very smoothly and works efficiently. It achieves 17.5 miles per gallon.

The ride quality is very good, although, certain road conditions cause it to rock annoyingly from side to side. This may have something to do with its four wheel drive system or its outdated rigid axles. On the bright side, Jeep's Quadra-Drive is probably the best four wheel drive system you can buy out there. It hasn't slipped one time on the snow. If it does however, it has the technology to send torque to the wheel that has the most traction and pull it out of the problem.

I optioned to get the top of the line Overland Edition with the quadra-coil suspension. This is a one a kind vehicle. It has every possible option, but the navigation system. The seats are very comfortable and the electroluminescent back round on the dash looks really neat. The dark leather and real wood grain is an excellent combination. Last of all the Infinity stereo, is probably the best factory sound system you can buy. The bass and features of this radio are outstanding.

Faults:

Virtually nothing has gone wrong with this car. There is a clicking noise in the steering which is attributed by the dealer to the clock spring. There is a buzzing rattle under the front left dash. Both of these problems also existed in my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 1999.

General Comments:

This is an excellent vehicle. It handles well, stops quickly, and runs strong. Jeep reportedly has reliability problems, but many of the Jeep Grand Cherokees problems apparently have been ironed out now that it is in its 4th year of production (I had several problems and recalls on my 1999 Grand Cherokee). The 4.0 six cylinder engine is unbreakable. These vehicles are highly discounted, which damages re-sale a bit, but overall they are a great bargain if you stick with the basic model.
