Faults:

Within 10,000 miles the front rotors warped badly. After looking on line at all the bad things said about the brakes I talked to the dealer. They said to bring it in to be looked at, but the rotors were probably OK. I did not even want to go there so I put on new Powerslot rotors with ceramic pads and that solved the problem plus made it stop a whole lot better!

Seat leather upholstery started coming apart after 6months and the seats moved like lawn chairs.

Pulled out of a parking lot to a highway at an off angle and pulled the right rear shock in two and folded it! So much for being trail rated.

200 miles out of warranty! The transmission destroyed itself! $3,000 later and no help from the dealer, it still makes noise.

One week after transmission is fixed, ac looses all pressure. We take it to dealer for tune up and tell them about the ac problem and that there is probably a leek in a line or the compressor. The service manager calls back and say there is no problem with the ac and that they tested the pressure and test drove it, no problems. Now I have worked on a lot of vehicles and have replaced an engine or two (and then some) so I arqued the point with the service manager. He had someone else call me back two hours later and say that there was indeed a leak, but would have to remove the dash to repair. He qouted us $1,300 and we asked him to fax over a written qoute. The written qoute was for $1,600! Now the engine runs rougher than it did when we took it in!

Over the last week, more noises coming from the engine compartment!! What next?

This car is two years old with 56,000 miles on it and is falling apart!

I have had two other Grand Cherokees and have had nothing but success. This one is making me switch brands!!

The last straw is that with only a two year old vehicle/56,000 miles, re-sale value is nothing! My 2000 Chevy pick up with 130,000 miles is worth more!!!

General Comments:

Engine has good Power though!

Nothing else is worth keeping!

Faults:

Clear coat Peeled at 50000KM off badges AND body.

Top of the line (but too-soft) leather/suede combination seats have collapsed and unraveled.

Mo-par V-line padded brakes squeal non-stop...I mean continuously while engaged or not.

Side to side horse carriage-like suspension.

Slushy, unreliable transmission.

General Comments:

Dangerously fast...4.7L H.O. delivers serious torque and acceleration. All good!!!

Good-looks.

Mountain goat off-road agility.

Faults:

Gas cap went out about 71000 miles.

Axle seal leaked around 65000 miles

General Comments:

I have have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and I love it.

There has been some bumps in the road with it, but they are nothing big to me, because I have a understanding about cars, and I know that some are easy to fix, or some are nothing to worry about.

One of the problems I had was that the check engine light came on. The code read that there was a 0.02 of an inch leak in the system. All that it was, was a bad gas cap that cost $17.

I also had a leaky axle seal on the right front side. It ended up getting fixed after the 5th time at the dealer for replacing 2 axle seals, 1 axle shaft and around $2500 in labor and parts. But I have a warranty, so it all cost me about $350.

I have 72K miles on my Jeep, and it still runs great. After I bought it, I saw that it has been 4wheeled in the past. The brakes work great also, after I put ceramic pads on all 4 disc brakes, and it also keeps my front wheels clean.

The problems with my Jeep that I haven't found an answer to are my mirrors & steering. My mirrors angle down whenever I turn on my car, and my steering pulls to the right a little. I'm planning on taking it to get a steering alignment.

It may sound like the people with the problems don't know how to go about fixing them, and it is costing a lot of money. So they are taking them out on their Jeep. A lot of people think that they can just let a car go with no oil change or check engine light on, and not do anything about it, and still have a great running car with no problems. Some people do not get their car fixed because it is too much, and they have other things to buy, but what they don't understand is that they are going to end up paying more in maintenance fees to fix the problem later, or even have to buy another car.
