2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 I-6

Summary:

365k and still kicking!

Faults:

On its third transmission. 1st - 170k, 2nd - 100k, 3rd - 90k so far.

Always seems to have an oil leak.

I have to change the brakes at least once a year due to warped rotors.

Both front window regulators have gone out at sometime.

Check engine light has been on for about a year, but still runs great with 21-22mpg on the highway.

Now the right rear axle seal is starting to leak, and the tech at the local dealership said that you can't change the seal, but instead have to buy a new rear-end. I know this is a bunch of BS.

General Comments:

I would surely buy a new 2011 GC. I like the styling and overall durability of the Jeep. I take good care of it, but at this high of mileage, things are bound to go wrong.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L

Summary:

The Jeep is a nice vehicle, but expensive fixes make it a risk to drive

Faults:

Front rotors 3 times, front brakes 5 times.

Power steering pump replaced.

Tires replaced at 26000.

Front end alignment 2 times.

Front headlights.

Air conditioner control panel replaced to fix air conditioner problem; dealer charged 1000 to replace a sensor in the dash that did not fix the problem.

General Comments:

Jeep has steering issues that are not fixable by any place that I have taken it to. All steering is tight.

Since Michigan is replacing many roads or resurfacing, the car handles well on those roads, but any slant to the road and you're in the curb.

By grasping the wheel tightly, and having the tilt all the way down, you can move the steering wheel up and down with a clicking noise. I have no idea what the problem is??

One area I travel, goes over a set of RR tracks, and if I let the steering wheel loose, just to see how the Jeep will react, the steering wheel moves to the right severely, and without correction, I would be in a ditch.

We have rebuilt gear box, power steering unit, brakes, tires, all 4 rotors, and still no one knows??? Any help out there???

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0

Summary:

Very poorly made

Faults:

Brake rotors, fan relay at least 8 times, radiator, O2 sensors changed yearly, pinion seals, numerous electrical problems etc.

General Comments:

I would never buy a Jeep or a Chrysler product ever again. The same things break on this over and over again; fan relays, power windows, brake rotors, O2 sensors and costly electrical repairs.

I had none of the above relay things in eight years. The problem is in between the driver and the relay.

I have also built anger, but over tranny issues. One day, a devoted mechanic thought me that my 45rfe was based on the bullet proof Torqueflite, and that internal damage is uncommon, and any malfunction is often electronic.

Stealership and shop will more likely replace the whole unit, and reuse your unit with a new sensor (cheap).

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8

Summary:

Jeep... you're better off walking

Faults:

A/C system went out, and was replaced under warranty.

Power steering whines, and the dealer could never fix.

Engine taps, and dealer couldn't fix.

Rotors warped at 8k, and dealer wouldn't fix.

Check engine light at 28k, fixed myself by resetting; caused by gas cap.

Hydraulic lifts failed at 25k; replaced, and replaced again at 35k.

Power seat broke; will not move forward or back.

This SUV has a lot of wind noise at highway speeds.

All power window regulators have broken, and I am rebuilding them with the small metal piece that won't break again.

General Comments:

This is my second Grand Cherokee, and my last. It's a shame Chrysler knows about the issues owners are having and not wanting to do anything to help. The government was wrong to help bail them out.

I had a 1996 Explorer that was retired after 250k miles. Other than replacing normal routine items, I never had anything major go wrong with it. The only reason it was put to pasture was because the transmission finally died and it wasn't worth the repair.

No more Jeeps, and we need to spread the word. Don't waste your hard earned monies on Chrysler's junk. No wonder Mercedes bailed on them.
