2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7

Faults:

Constant fault codes, stupid electrical problems such as blowing fuses and light bulbs, it hesitates while accelerating, radiator went south, transfer case making a strange noise (dealer can't find anything wrong), transmission leaks and clunks, engine developed a ticking sound... going to the shop on Monday, and I'm afraid to find out what it is.

General Comments:

Looks great, but the lack of quality build is alarming... it will nickel and dime you to death, and the parts are very expensive.

Very thirsty... I could live with that, if I got something in return... like power.

Power is not bad, but not that great either... I should have stuck with my "ugly" 4Runner that had 470000 kilometers on the clock, as aside from regular maintenance, it never cost me a penny.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7 V6

Summary:

Fun hit or miss SUV. Beware of electrical problems

Faults:

Front wiring harness went bad and the dealership can't fix it. Worse, the part isn't even made any more so I've had to root around in junk yards trying to find it. Since it's a vehicle less than 10 years old, I can't believe I've had this hard of a time finding this part. Not to mention the repair itself is extremely expensive. Without a new harness, the vehicle drops into 'limp mode' and needs constant restarts just to get somewhere.

All around I've had electrical gremlins since the month I purchased the car, and I put less than 10k miles on it in 2 years. This is the last Jeep I ever buy.

General Comments:

When it's working, it's great car, comfortable ride and plenty of room.

Unfortunately it seems Chrysler has stopped supporting this model and I can't even get it repaired even when I want to.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.7L

Summary:

American dream

Faults:

Front wheel bearing wore out and had to be replaced at 25,000 miles.

Rear axle is making loud whining noises under light load.

General Comments:

This was a really nice vehicle to drive when it was almost new. I liked the styling and all weather handling.

When it broke down two weeks after the warranty expired, the dealer and manufacturer told me "sorry, that's the way it goes".

Shortly after that front wheel bearing incident, the rear axle began making loud noises. I'm not going to go through this anymore.

Beware. I've replaced the battery of my 06 twice already, along with the transmission, electronic shifter, and multifunction switch. I took it to the dealership for the multifunction switch problem; they said nothing was wrong (even though my head and interior lights would randomly go off when driving). I told them to check the switch and they did not. Next week, it got to the point where my lights did not work. I took it in again and they said it was the switch. The windows randomly roll up and down.

It is powerless no acceleration at all. It is not an ideal SUV for pulling/merging into any kind of traffic. You can feel the SUV searching for gears when going up any kind of incline. The top speed is 110, even though it has 210 hp. I get 3.2 mpg on average, not 17. I have had it checked many times, but no that's the mpg it gets.

Do not buy this car. It handles well, but that's all. Please do not make the same mistake I did. This was what I spent my money on as my first car, and I never regretted it more.

Also, I had a friend with this car, and he also has the same problems.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7

Summary:

A very disappointing 3 years

Faults:

I've had the Jeep 3 years. After 8 months I began frequently taking it in for work. Things that should last 100k miles were dropping left and right. Transmission problems, suspension problems. Even the steering rack went at 40k.

The interior plastic is extremely cheap feeling, which I knew from the start, but as time went on, it got dirty easy and scratched with the lightest touch.

If you plan on having kids, forget it. This is a very large sized car, yet a toddler seat cannot fully seat in the back. NOT SAFE. And the only people that can sit back there are kids without car seats, because of the poor leg and head room. No adult can comfortable ride for more than 10 minutes. We had to keep the kids in my wife's little 4 door car until they were out of their car seats, just so they can safely ride. Pathetic considering the Jeep is bigger then her car and supposedly a FAMILY friendly vehicle.

Lastly, do not buy one if you plan on doing any off roading. The ground clearance was a big problem, and when I attempted to have a professional lift and tires put on the truck, it quickly began falling apart.

General Comments:

I was so excited when I first bought this thing. And I can't say anymore that this is a real JEEP or even a truck. It's a giant gas guzzling car that is bad for people with families, and very bad for people who expect quality for their money.

This car is full of cool options, but if the car itself isn't quality enough to safely get you down the road for at least a few years, what's the point?

After 3 years I'm sad to say I've had it. I've lost enough money and I'm done. We are buying a Chevy Tahoe or Ford. Heck, I'll buy a Kia before I come close to buying a Cherokee again!

If you want a JEEP, buy a real jeep. These Cherokees are just over priced SUVs that have a Jeep symbol on the front. They are not what they claim to be.

I have owned a Jeep Cherokee from 60,000 km. It is now on 150,000 and I have not had a single problem with it. I live on the coast and use it off road and on dirt roads. Nothing has ever fallen of it. The interior is of a high quality and everybody is amazed at the condition after so many miles. The dash is of a far higher quality than the other 4x4 with their pressed plastic interiors.

I am confused with the lack of traditional values that exist.

The Japanese motor industry has to a large extent messed up the motor industry, forcing the European and American to build cheaper products in order to compete. The Korean, Indian and Chinese leave me speechless. They get paid a cup of rice to work. How can the rest of the world compete.

I own 2 Rolls Royces and two Jeeps, and will gladly spend the extra to have a quality vehicles.
