1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 GAS
Summary:
The good far out weights the bad, you must own one
Faults:
When I bought the car it hadn't been taken care of, so I had to solve all the common leaks. Replaced the oil pan gasket to solve the oil leak around 141,000 miles. Then the transmission pan started leaking when the truck sat parked for a couple of days. The gasket had hardened so I replaced it. Now I had a anti-freeze leak which I have found is coming from the intake manifold gasket (i think). I plan on replaceing it next weekend. I always had a problem with 4WD (popping sound coming from front) so I took the hubs off and all I found was rust. I replaced the bearing, hubs, and seals now it works perfect, but still grinding sound when going into 4WD-low.
General Comments:
You must keep in mind this is an old car and with routine maintenance will stay running strong. This car has surprised me several times. When I wanted to turn around and go back down the trail something told me go for it, and this jeep never let me down. it has been stuck a few times, but never broke down or stoped trying (knock on wood). Theres nothing like rolling all the windows down (includeing the back) and just crusing down a trail. I'm not sure about other areas, but where I live you don't ever see them, and when you find someone that has one its like you've run into that old friend from high school.
Even when I spend a weekend every now and then on fixing the little problems I never regret buying this real SUV.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have the same one, but someone put a paint job on it and as for the rust, it was recommended in the service book to clean and use undercoating paint...it's like rubber and helps to deadin the sound too... But I Love my Jeep just needs some care.
