Faults:

4wd handle broke.

"Wobble of death".

Stalling/idling problems.

While I was driving down the highway, the car started slowing down, as I had let off the throttle completely, and it took some time to get it to respond. Usually happened at high speed, up hills/stressful on the engine.

Lots of rust.

Lock torque converter doesn't work, so no overdrive on the highway.

General Comments:

This was my first car that I got from my dad at 16. He got it after a car accident when I was in 5th grade with 80 thousand miles on it. The problems I've listed were only when I was driving it. Before, I think all we put in was a tranny and basic maintenance.

I love this car. It's fully loaded ie leather, wood, CD, electric everything. It is also the most comfortable car I've been in. On long trips, my bum and back would always hurt, but never in my Jeep (very plush seats).

I've customized it a bit with new vinyl, intake and exhaust, bigger fog lights.

I love the engine A: because it's bulletproof and B: because it's a manly engine that makes one hell of a racket. It does make conversation a bit difficult though.

Now the 4wd. I live in CT, and go to Colleen in Cleveland, with PA in between, and it snows a lot in all three of those places. The only time I've lost traction is when I intentionally fishtail just for fun (Mind you, I also have snow and offroad tires, and I'd never muck about with all-season wannabes).

The only thing I don't like about the car is the gas mileage, but let's face it, what good SUV has good economy? I've driving from CT to Cleveland at least 5x, and it hasn't put a foot wrong. It big and comfy, and I think it's the best first car for a kid living where the snow is.

Faults:

Rear fuse box periodically shorts out, causing failure of a few rear lights.

Neutral safety switch malfunctioned, needed to be replaced.

General Comments:

This car is very solid and drives great. The ride is very comfortable and it can handle anything you want to throw at it off-road.

Mechanically, it has had no real problems. Transmission and drive train are intact after all these years. It has a few electrical quirks, such as the rear fuse box periodically burning out. Just recently noticed fault with the fuel mixture and need to replace the O2 sensor.

Faults:

The motor on the electric antenna does not always raise it to the fully upright position or return it all the way down when the stereo is turned off. However, this does not affect radio reception in any way.

General Comments:

This Grand Wagoneer is possibly the nicest vehicle I have ever owned and I have owned some nice ones to include BMW, Mercedes, Rover, and a 2005 Dodge Ram Laredo SLT. (Ram was totaled, which is the reason I purchased the Grand Wagoneer)

When I bought this vehicle, it looked as if it had just rolled off the show room floor. The leather and wood interior is immaculate, as is the exterior. Even though it has 4WD and the optional off-road package, it had never been off pavement before I bought it from it's original owner.

It comes with all the bells and whistles, including computerized digital displays (3 of them) showing everything from status of all vehicle systems (including air pressure of tires) to ambient and interior temperature.

The power and pickup of this vehicle with it's 5.2L Magnum V8 is impressive. It can tow up to 6500 lbs.

The handling and solid feel of this vehicle makes it feel as if it would go exactly wherever you want it to, even at high speeds. In full time 4WD I have driven it through 30 inches of snow on steep terrain and it might has been on a level highway on a sunny day.

The best thing about it is that I purchased it for $4000, roughly half the Blue Book value. No car note and a vehicle that has performed faultlessly.

Faults:

AC leak at 70,000 miles.

Radiator leak at 82,000 miles.

General Comments:

Very comfortable seats, somewhat choppy ride over undulations; rear drum brakes (on this year only) tend to grab when first used in wet weather.

Traction, performance, and reliability have all been exemplary.

Uses no oil, no leaking seals despite its age. Never have needed chassis/wheel alignment or anything other than routine maintenance, except as listed above.

Body and paint holding up as though new.
