2003 Jeep Liberty

Summary:

It's a poorly manufactured vehicle

Faults:

It has been recalled twice.

I had to replace the alternator once and have gone through 2 batteries in 2 years at no fault of mine (i.e. I didn't leave the lights on, etc.).

Neither of the rear electric windows will open anymore and neither will the doors from the inside. It is no longer under warranty so I would have to pay to have them fixed myself.

The AC stops cooling for about 30 minutes a day at any time, and then comes on by itself without any intervention.

General Comments:

It is a shame because I purchased this Jeep Liberty because my previous car was a Jeep Cherokee that I was extremely satisfied with. The poor quality of the Liberty and the fact that they no longer manufacture the Cherokee will most likely make me a VW customer in the near future.

Outside of the USA, the Liberty is still called the Cherokee.

2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7

Summary:

Great for the money and very durable

Faults:

Water pump went today... that's it!

Ball joints replaced under a factory recall.

General Comments:

It's our first SUV. It's not huge.. but has great space inside for moving stuff.. it feels solid on the road, even in rough storms. Plenty of power.. very quick.. makes the best u-turns!

Radio sucks.. seats are average. Wish it got better gas mileage.

We own two other cars... but this is the one we drive long distances.

My wife rear ended a Cadillac who cut us off... and while the trunk of the caddy was in its back seat after the accident.. our Liberty only sustained minor damage. I was glad she traded in in the Elantra, even though the Elantra had less miles and was a newer vehicle.

We plan to give it to our daughter in 2 years when she starts driving.

It has been very reliable. I haven't ever replaced anything until today when the water pump went out on us. (unless you count the battery.. brake pads...)

Still using original wires and plugs...

Great vehicle. I'd buy another.

2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7

Summary:

It is a great car

Faults:

Fuel filter needed to be replaced, but besides that I love my Jeep Liberty 2003; it is an amazing small SUV. I would buy another one.

General Comments:

This a good car; I love mine. It's too bad others don't like theres, they must drive it hard and not take care of it. Mine is still good, and I have nothing bad to say about the Jeep.

2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition 3.7 Litre

Summary:

Might be a lemon that quit after 100,000 miles

Faults:

The heat worked on and off, stopped in a repair shop and the serpentine belt had snapped, and there was anti-freeze spraying all over the engine.

Now it just stalled (3 weeks ago). Nobody can quite figure out what is wrong with it... So it's decided I need a new engine. $2500. Wow for a fairly new auto.

General Comments:

I enjoy the zippiness, but was not prepared to replace the engine. I haven't even had it for a year!!

2003 Jeep Liberty Sport

Summary:

Not happy that Jeep does not stand behind their product

Faults:

I had the right front ball joint snap fortunately going at a very slow speed. The reputable garage I took the jeep to, privately owned, contacted Jeep at least twice asking about the incident. Jeep told the garage there had not been a recall and they would not do anything for the owner. Very disappointed in Jeep; not sure I will purchase or recommend to others. I now have a noise in the right front that resulted from this incident. It was not there prior.

2003 Jeep Liberty V6

Summary:

Not a good buy for the money

Faults:

Engine blew up at 76000 miles. Chrysler would do nothing about it.

Valve spring snapped in half.

Recently, I have a rust spot on the roof of the car, all the way through. I asked the dealership if this would be covered by the manufacturer? No, too many miles. Why does miles have to do with the body, the roof?

Just interested if anyone else with a Liberty has had these same problems?

The ignition locked and had to be replaced, and my mechanic said the parts person at the dealership said this has gone bad with all of them. Yet no recall on this?

General Comments:

My Jeep is paid for, and I'll probably drive it till the wheels fall off. With the economy what it is, I don't want a car payment right now.

I have always done the routine maintenance; tires, brakes, oil changes, plugs, etc, and expect these items to have to be routinely serviced, but this rust spot on the roof? An auto body man said if I check into this further, I'll probably find the same problem with this whole year of Libertys. This was not a result of anything from a consumer error. This was the steel on this.

You should check out my 2003 Liberty... The Bells and whistles write up. I had rust spots showing up in welded seams, and around the windows etc., and the vehicle wasn't even 3 years old.

Further... The highways are not over-salted here, as it gets 40 below...And I don't live by the coast.

I ended up phoning the head-office over the rust, and they basically told me to go F___ myself.

It is aggravating, when you pay out all that money and you end up with a lemon. There should be laws to protect the buyer from being taken like this...It seems the manufacturers can promise anything they want, just to sucker you into buying...And then when a problem arises, they can just sit back and laugh at you.

I have a 02 Liberty, and I have the rust role on the roof at the back window. I had it fixed, no biggy.
