Faults:

Exhaust manifold crack at 80000; that's it. Extremely reliable and low-cost to maintain.

General Comments:

One of the most durable, reliable cars out there. With the proper tires and tire pressure, the TJ is nimble and responsive, with the 4.0 liter engine providing ample power for tooling around town and for interstate travel.

Faults:

Radiator fell apart, inside door latches broke leaving you unable to get out of jeep, rubber hood latches broke causing passing vehicle wind gusts to bend hood, gauges go dead, fuel gauge sometimes dosent work, O2 sensor failed, blower motor relay issues causing melted wiring, seat belts won't retract so they get stuck in door constantly.

General Comments:

Yes it's a jeep I realize. Once a indestructible American Icon, now an American joke. never intended to ride nice or be quiet, nor were the other 5 I've owned. What has Chrysler done to the Jeep name? To think your supposed to trust this thing miles away from help or civilization? not a chance, the buzzards would pick your bones clean before you got out. great car if you like a good project and like being broke.

Faults:

Rear wiper motor died in 2001.

General Comments:

I bought this Jeep new in 97 and have been very pleased with it. You have to accept the fact that this isn't a comfortable vehicle to commute with, but if you accept that you'll be pleased. This was my only vehicle until 2000 when I bought a 91 Nissan Stanza to drive back and forth to work. At that point my Jeep only became my fun vehicle. I have had no problems with my motor of transmission (5 speed manual) yet. It doesn't quite have 70,000 miles yet, but I've had no problems to speak of. The wiper motor went before the warranty was up so that cost me nothing. I have also put larger rims and tired on it which has made my speedometer off by about 10%. Over all I have been very happy with my Jeep!

Faults:

Dashboard electrical problems (speedometer issues).

Transmission failed at 40,000 miles.

Catalytic Converter failed at 47,000 miles.

Blower motor for vents went at 47,000 miles.

General Comments:

Great car for the fun side of it, terrible for repairs which are frequent. Catalytic converter is such a pain in the butt, and I know this is not the last time I'll be replacing that. Great to modify, but buy as second car/toy/fun car... not your main vehicle like I did, unless you enjoy borrowing other people's cars while you get the Jeep fixed. I don't!
