1990 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L

Summary:

A great vehicle for summer!

Faults:

The choke got stuck on, which caused the car to idle really low.

Gas guage doesn't work.

Overall, nothing I can't fix.

General Comments:

I really like this car, but it isn't very comfortable.

I a little slow for my liking, but it's a jeep (It's not supposed to be fast). It is great for offroad and driving every once in a while. It is not an around the town car.

Great in the summer, horrible in the winter.

Very reliable, even with the sprung over lift and big tires I have on it.

Does guzzle quite a bit of gas, but it is definitely worth it.

1990 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 straight 6

Summary:

Jeep, a warranty is a necessity...

Faults:

First I had to get new engine mounts (no big deal).

Then intake gaskets (and the price keeps going up).

The transmission went at only 83,000 miles.

Lastly, before I got rid of it, it couldn't hold a vaccum tight enough to keep it from stalling everytime I came to a stop.

General Comments:

I will never buy a car that doesn't have a warranty so I won't be stuck with the repair bill.

1990 Jeep Wrangler 2dr 4 cyl

Summary:

A fun, sporty recreational vehicle... but, far from a comfortable every-day vehicle!!

Faults:

Had exhaust replaced, 2 months later had engine replaced, 3 months later had clutch replaced, 2 months later bought 4 new tires.

We are now going to replace the rotors and are trying to figure out why the tail lights aren't working.

The key is sticking in the ignition, and the metal piece that holds the bikini top on has broken in two.

General Comments:

The 2.5 lit, 4 cyl engine has no power. Even on the highway, when you go up a hill, you lose power.

Not having A/C in this Texas heat is a killer.

Overall, we have put enough money into repairs in the last year to have bought a new Jeep!!

Your brake rotors are on a factory recall, see your dealer...

1990 Jeep Wrangler 2.0L 4 cyl, 4WD

Summary:

A lesson of humidity and summertime fun

Faults:

Water pump, 2 other radiator hoses busted.

Transmission overhaul.

Clutch master cylinder leak.

Brake master cylinder leak.

Fuel gauge never worked right, eventually broke.

General Comments:

Fun car for the summertime, especially here in Miami, FL. Winter & rainy season was hell though, since the canvas top offered little or no heat retention from all the rips & tears it eventually got (Yes although many people think we have no winter in Miami, humidity not only affects how hot it feels, but how cold it feels).

The actual engine block never leaked or gave any grief, but the radiator was crappy and the car ran hot. Definitely not enough power in the 4cyl to make the ride too exciting, but it's was enough to get me from A to B on time.

Again, Wranglers are not for comfort, so any complaining about "leather seats"or "air conditioning" is assenine... but honestly, adjustable seat backs would've been nice, that doesn't seem like too much to ask?

The fuel gauge problem was a real pain, it kept bobbing up and down all day, but, rather than pay $100 for the entire 4 gauge cluster, I just timed my fillups at every 200 miles.
