1996 Jeep Wrangler V6

Summary:

A classic

Faults:

Routine items for a used car. Head gasket, a radiator hose cracked and leaked some coolant, and the passenger side headlight burned out.

General Comments:

Really capable off reader. From the sandy beaches to rocky trails in the mountains, this is the truck you want.

Rearward seat travel could be improved. If you’re over about 5 foot 7, your left foot won’t have as much space as you’d probably like to rest it on the highway.

Full size spare tire is a nice plus.

A/C isn’t super cold even after a recharge, but it’s not like the typical driver of these is wearing suits and commuting daily in this.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

"Full size spare tire is a nice plus"

As the Wrangler carries its spare tire on the outside of the tailgate, what would be the point of a space saver spare? A donut would actually look ridiculous back there.

I think the point is most vehicles don’t come with a full size spare, including other off roaders.

And some new cars don't have spare tires at all. How far we have come.

Not only do we have a full size spare on our Rubicon, but there’s a built in folding table for when you get there. A real pain to install, but one of a thousand upgrades to add. Then you use your cell to have AAA put the spare on for you.

Some cars have different rim sizes front and back. Most today have cell call road service to take car to a tire center. I have a 200 mile towing plan.

Seems like a pain to be required to be towed rather than change your own tire in < 10 minutes & resume traveling.

Is this a TJ? I can’t find any 96 Wranglers which were ever made.

No it’s easier. You use your cell and within a half hour they are supposed to be there. Hands clean, do some texting and call up some friends to catch up.

Yeah, because there's no better time to carch up on old times with an old friend than when you're broken down on the side of the road waiting for Triple A.
