1999 Jeep Wrangler SE 2.4
Summary:
The four cylinder is not the way to go
Faults:
Seats have cracked in the sides.
Top leaks water.
Replaced catalytic converter.
Steering wheel squeeked at 25k miles.
General Comments:
This is a nice second car. It is not a highway vehicle. When I bought the Wrangler it came with Goodyear Wrangler GSA tires and these are not safe. I had to buy Bridgestones to keep the rear end from sliding in the rain.
The four banger does not have the desired power that a Jeep needs. This vehicle does hold resale value, but I would recommend to get a V6; really they ought to offer a V-8 in the thing like they did with the American Eagle, but with a command 4-wheel X-fer.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I have a '99 Jeep Wrangler Sport with the 4.0 L engine and absolutely love it. The only complaints thus far... my manifold has cracked as well. I've spoken with several owners of '99 models and theirs have cracked as well. Apparently there is a new flex coupling being used which will eliminate this problem. Why no recall? I also agree with your comment on the window zippers; nearly useless.
Other than those two things... I love my Jeep.
