2001 Kia Rio LS DOHC 1.5L

Summary:

Cheap to run, but expensive to buy

Faults:

The transmission syncs are not meshing right. I have to bring this in to the shop.

The hub caps could not withstand one wash at the carwash. The paint flaked off all of the hub caps. KIA will not warranty this.

Scratches from delivery. This was under warranty.

The spark plug boot in way to tight so when I changed the plugs the boot split. Blue silicone was the solution to this problem.

I found bubbles on the black wrap on the drivers door top. This was under warranty.

I just did a oil change on my car and found the transmission has a slow leak in it. I will wait for the transmission to blow and get a new one under warranty.

General Comments:

The KIa Rio has a very good weight to horse power ratio. But the horse power is only 95. The car though can accelerate very quick. I go from 0-80 Km/h in only 5-6 seconds. But the car can't go any faster than 230Km/h and in the 170-230 range it is really sluggish. I have had a lot of people ask me about this car and I would not recommend this car for someone who wants a cheap car. When you factor all the stuff the price goes from $13,000 to $17,500 + tax and extra stuff. This comes out to around $22,500 which is a lot of money for a advertised $13,000 car.

Did you actually go 230KM/Hr? I didn't think a car with only 95HP (factoring in the weight and wind drag) could do 230. Did you do some performance mods?

And where were you able to drive it that fast? Did you take it on the track?

2001 Kia Rio LX

Summary:

The worst piece of crap I've ever owned

Faults:

I've had two cylinders replaced, computer, seat belt, grounds to the transmission, new computer program, fuel pump, igniter, and front brakes. They still don't fix the problems. They have been fixing the same problem for two years now.

General Comments:

- uncomfortably

- can't drive it on highway because it quits.

- in the morning it doesn't shift gears, it sticks in gear.

2001 Kia Rio 1.5L

Summary:

Piece of crap on wheels!!!

Faults:

Oil pan gasket had a hole in it when I bought it found this out with first oil change.

I have had 7 set of spark plugs and wires.

It does not like to start when it rains.

I had the windshield wipers linkage and arms replaced.

The engine jerk between 1st and 2nd gear.

The car itself shakes horribly when you go over 50mph.

The passenger side lock doesn't work half the time and the gas gage is wrong.

General Comments:

This is the worst car I have ever owned. I feel bed because my parents bought one the year after I did and they have nothing, but problems with thier's also.

I can honestly say that there is not one good thing to say about this vehicle.

Why are people still buying Kia Cars? Surely there is now enough bad publicity on the internet to sway people.

When you car shaking badly bring it to Kia and tell them to do a balance. Your car shakes badly over 50 because your wheels are spinning faster and you fell more bumps, than you would at say 20mph, so yoru tires feel mroe and you will also. It is quite possible one of your wheel weights fell off ans that would be causing this problem. I would bring it to Kia sooner rather than later because this could cause premature tire wear.

2001 Kia Rio Base 1.5 liter

Summary:

Inexpensive, good power, good mileage, great trunk and 4-doors!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car.

General Comments:

The car is small, so you can't expect it to act like a Camry, yet it is far better than a corolla.

Although higher mileage is expected from a small 4 cylinder, mileage is always 32-35 mixed city/highway and livable considering it's surprising power.

Seats are excellent, dash is laid out great and simple functional knobs are easy to use.

HUGE trunk... HUGE trunk.

Rear drum brakes make a little bit of noise when 1st taking off in the morning, but quickly loses the moisture and are back to normal.

5-speed is good, but gates are slow; clutch is good.

Base model - wish it had A/C, but wouldn't want power doors/windows since you can easily reach them and power steering wouldn't be worth it since steering is quite easy on a light car.

Warranty is great 10/100,000.

Would definitely by another Kia and recommend one to others.
