2005 Kia Sedona LX 6 cylinder

Summary:

Great multipurpose vehicle

Faults:

On my Kia, I have had problems with the third row windows staying closed.

When you take the headrests off any of the seats, the springs etc. pop out.

I have had the seat tray on the back of passenger front seat pop off.

Problems with the television almost immediately after buying it.

I have also had the coolant lines that run from the front to the rear heat rust out in the metal areas.

General Comments:

After all the "bad", I have to say that this motor/trans has been great. I have 4 kids and we live on a farm. I have a tow package on my van, and we have used this van to pull our enclosed trailer when we moved, our horse trailer, our tractor, hay etc. We have towed more things than I can remember with this van.

It has pretty good gas mileage, and all towing was done at distances under 100 miles on pretty flat terrain (Midwest).

My kids have been rough on it too, so as far as the interior, some things were just made cheaply or with poor design. Anything else I can attribute to normal wear and tear. I would recommend; the only thing this ride lacks is 4x4!

2005 Kia Sedona EX V6

Summary:

I love my dependable van

Faults:

Front rotors warp prematurely.

Driver's power seat.

General Comments:

Considering I am up to 56,000 miles on this car, and the only time it has gone into the shop for something really KIA specific is the driver's seat motor (which was covered under warranty), I have been super happy.

I researched online about the rotors wearing out fast, since they are too small for the van and heat up during heavy braking. I purchased some high performance drilled and slotted rotors over 20,000 miles ago, and have not had a problem since.

I like this van, in fact I love it, and plan on driving it into the ground. I am getting the 60K maintenance done on it now for our trip from Alaska to Florida. It's going to be approx $1000 due to the 60K mile timing chain requirement, but that's fine.

The car has been great, and when I buy another BRAND NEW car, I will buy KIA or Hyundai, since they are the same. I would never buy one used though. I think KIAs will last a long time as long as you keep up on the maintenance.

I agree, I own a 2003 Sedona and the only part that was replaced on it was alternator (except regular maintaince and brakes twice). As of now it has 86k on it.

2005 Kia Sedona LX

Summary:

Sucks - don't buy!

Faults:

Everything has gone wrong with this van. I have never spent so much money on repairs as I have with this Kia.

The serpentine belt has broken 4 times, a kit had to be installed to make the belt work. There have been constant oil leaks. The brakes wear out fast. The tires never balance, and now the transmission is totally shot at 61,000.

On top of that, they are not honoring their warranty. I would say stay away from Kia!

General Comments:

Terrible on repairs.

2005 Kia Sedona EX 3.5

Summary:

Overall nice vehicle, but it is lacking in refinement and fuel economy

Faults:

This is my 2nd Sedona. I purchased an 03 and traded it in on the 05 due to mileage limitations on a lease.

Generally speaking, this van has been reliable.

The brakes are weak and needed to be replaced. Rotors were warped.

I have replaced a wheel bearing after 100k but wear items are wear items.

Things that have flat out broken is the driver window does not work right. It has gotten stuck in all positions, and has forced me to remove the door skin on the side of the road to get it to go back up.

The arm rest on the drivers seat has broken twice. No excessive weight had been placed on it.

The CD player skips a lot. The 03 didn't.

Any buttons pressed regularly have the image or paint wear off. We check the temp a lot so the mode button has warn off. We are not OCD, but we check it enough.

The forward and reverse track button for the stereo has also worn.

Overall we have driven this a large number of KM's and it has held up quite well.

General Comments:

Pretty comfortable van all in all. I wish the rear seats were stow and go (they are newer models), and the fuel economy is shoddy. Not the worst, but poor.

We have maintained the van quite well and are pretty religious with oil changes and what not.

We also had to replace the timing belt. This was a maintenance thing.
