2007 Lexus GS 350

Summary:

Luxury and style, but watch Lexus service departments

Faults:

Gas lid would not shut.

CD player would capture CDs and not play or release them.

General Comments:

My Lexus has been mostly an enjoyable experience. It's quick with tons of do-dads that you can show off to friends.

The styling is good, especially on my GS.

The interior is attractive, with plenty of storage, however the seats could be more comfortable.

I found it very weird that a special message and warning lights appear for that monumental task of needing servicing, however if you're running out of gas, a single light lights, and it is hidden by my steering wheel.

Recently I had a rock hit my front windshield. My insurance company sent a local auto glass company who replaced my window on the spot. I was unaware that I should be asking for a Lexus manufactured windshield, and when my automatic wipers wouldn't work, my Lexus service rep. informed me that the windshield had to be Lexus built for the wipers to work. So I went back to the people who put the windshield in, and they got the insurance company to pay for genuine Lexus glass (to the tune of $1100 plus). The installers wanted $150 to reinstall and I paid it. Only the automatic wipers still didn't work.

I returned to Lexus and they took an afternoon to tell me that the jell pad between the sensor and the wind shield was missing, and they would gladly order one for $100. Lexus didn't feel, on my original complaint, that it was worth their time to check for this pad. At this time I don't plan on participating in the $150 to $200 Lexus oil changes anymore. I don't mind them (Lexus) being snooty, but I do resent my consistently paying for their snootiness.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

I've grown to detest luxury cars... they are overly complex and just generate revenue for the dealer. Life is too short to have a month of drama over a stupid windshield.

I agree with the previous comment. Lexus puts too much energy into over engineering useless safety features into it's vehicles while overlooking obvious blunders like including a cassette tape player. Lexus is not paying attention to details. My 2007 GS350 AWD is my first and last Lexus automobile.

2007 Lexus GS 350 3.5

Summary:

Lexus still sets the bar for all others

Faults:

I bought the car new (2007 Lexus GS350). Although the car only has 6,000 miles on the odometer, it has been nearly flawless. Only problem was a bad motor on the driver's side mirror. Took the car to Lexus dealer, left it there for a day (gave me another Lexus to use while under repair), came back and all is good.

General Comments:

Truth be told, a Lexus is a Toyota built to the 10th power. Car is (and sounds) very solid. Runs quietly, the new 303hp engine is very responsive and I get terrific city mileage (for Los Angeles - a realistic 18 MPG). Long drives on the highway are at 29 MPG with two people, a loaded trunk and the A/C on going 70 MPH+. Comfort is excellent.

My only two gripes after 9 months of ownership are that the C pillar is too big; making it difficult to back-up the car in certain situations (that not even the rear camera can help with). Also, the side view mirrors should extend another 1/2" for better rear-viewing when changing lanes. Sounds minimal but they are valid issues.

The first top-of-the line Toyota not to be mistaken for Mercedes! The brand reliability is based on econobox car with European design. MacPherson, swing rear axle, Chrysler electronics and most of our technology. Simple.

"The brand reliability is based on econobox car with European design."

Might be said of Caddy too. Your other comment about stolen technology ignores that every vehicle borrows elements from others. Most manufacturers would likely agree that the Japanese manufacturers bring as much to the table as they take from it.

Lexus makes great vehicles, however the vehicles are not that appealing. Take it from a person who has driven the IS350 for a while now, it sometimes feels like I am sitting in a highly tuned Toyota Corolla. It will never ever give me that feeling of power and speed that you get from a BMW.

Very uncomfortable car. Can barely get in without hitting my head, and I'm only 5'5".

Suspension is harsh. Brakes are "mushy" and occasionally pull hard to right. Dealer can't find anything wrong.

Annoying wind noise through driver door. Again, dealer can't fix it.

Trunk lining falling down. Has been "fixed" several times.. hah!

Paint coming off dash and mysterious holes developed in rear leather seats after being serviced at dealer. I believe they got battery acid or some chemical on leather.

Check engine light comes on often.

This car makes way too many trips to dealer. Hate it. Owned 3 Camrys previously. Would take any of them back over the GS350.
