1962 Lincoln Continental 430C.I. V8

Summary:

One of the greatest American cruisers ever built!

Faults:

Almost all perrifrials have gone at one time or another e.g. (Generator imploded at 100,000miles, coil at 98000, five bent push rods upon starting after 20 years, still ran!) But all of this was to be expected.

Seat wear nice wen I bought the car, but 40 year old leather that has not been properly maintained soon cracks!

General Comments:

I love this Car! It's one of Americas defining cars. It has loads of power and drop dead good looks, also it handles better then latter modles 1966-1980. Thoght it's big it drives sporty for a car from this time! The ride is stiff for a car of it's class, but takes bumps like there not there. My favorite part is the suicide doors. I would not trade this car for anything.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have to agree with you. Those suicide-door Lincolns were fabulous. I had a friend who bought one new, and we drove it across the bumpiest boulevard in Albuquerque. I have never been in a car that evened out the bumps in extreme quiet like that one. In my opinion, it was Ford Motor Company at its very best. I liked the smooth lines and uncluttered interior.

This brings back an ancient memory for me; I was 12 years old in 1976 when my grampa bought a 1962 Lincoln sedan as a semi-retirement present for himself, he said he always wanted one, but couldn't afford the $6000. price new. His car was Sultana white with a black leather interior. I was facsinated of how the hood was hinged on the front. After my dad did some tune-up work him and I took the Lincoln on the highway to test it. On the return trip he floored it, and that car effortlessly climbed to well over 100 m.p.h.,not a single protest from that big 430 v8. Impressive, since these cars weigh over 5000lbs! I think the 60's Lincolns are the best-looking cars out there.
