1990 Lincoln Continental LSC special edition

One great vehicle

Faults:

Front air suspension leaking.

General Comments:

The car is fantastic.

Front suspension repairs a little pricey, but worth it.

Rides like a Lincoln, and handles like a sports car.

Liked it so much I have purchased a second one. The second one is a Special Edition with only 72,000 miles and garage kept. We are now a 2 Mark VII family. If they last as long as my 1929 Model A Ford I will be happy.

I'll be 126 years old, but happy.

1990 Lincoln Continental Executive Series 3.8 Liter V6

Summary:

A great cross country cruiser - very comfortable

Faults:

Air Conditioning Compressor ($400.00)

Power Steering Pump ($250.00)

Speedometer Cluster is starting to fail at 165,000 miles... sometimes registers the correct speed, and other times registers 0.

General Comments:

This vehicle is very comfortable.

The gas mileage is around 15-20mpg in the city, typical for this kind of car.

Check prior maintenance records! If there aren't any, be sure to have the car carefully inspected by a trusted mechanic! Lincoln vehicles are typically higher maintenance then others, especially if they've been mistreated.

The engine was replaced at 110,000 miles, before I bought the vehicle, costing the previous owner $2500.00.

The Power Steering Pump was replaced several times (cheap Ford product) and so was the alternator.

Overall, this vehicle is reliable. If you treat it well, it will treat you well.

1990 Lincoln Continental 3.6 L V6

Summary:

Stay away unless you're rich and have enough for the repairs

Faults:

Just about everything, over the past 2 months spent over $4,000 on repairs. Over the past year probably around $8,000, seems like every 2 weeks the car is being fixed, always something.

Ride control keeps popping up, suspension totally went 3 times, goes through alternators like crazy, about 4 a year. There is too much to list, it's just generally a terrible car, will never buy Ford again as long as I live.

The radio doesn't work, the doors don't lock, just about the only thing that didn't break in that car was the engine. Other than that, everything was replaced even multiple times.

General Comments:

Total lemon, stay away, will never buy another American car. The only good thing about it is that it's pretty comfortable. If it were up to me, I'd drive it off a cliff. Traded it a few days ago for a Mazda.

It is unfortunate that Lincoln made these Continentals with so many built in problems. Lincoln as a whole however, has usually built quality automobiles. I personally have found that the proven rear drive v-8 powered luxury cars were the most reliable. They are simple in design and were refined over the years. Cadillac had a couple of bombs also. But that's another story.
