2000 Lincoln LS Sport 8 cylinder

Summary:

This car is a lemon

Faults:

Same problems as everybody else:

Valve cover gaskets leaking shorted out a coil I had replaced.

Air conditioner replaced.

Ball joints starting to squeak.

Lug nuts on one wheel striped.

A/C also not blowing as cold.

Alarm and inside lights go nuts sometimes.\

The cooling reservoir tank was replaced.

The car overheats, overheats, overheats!!!

General Comments:

This is our second LS. We got rid of it cause of premium gas. Wish we learned our lesson the first time. Any details on a law suit?

2000 Lincoln LS 3.9 V8

Summary:

The LS delivered the performance but not the quality

Faults:

Starter will not work sometimes, replaced and fixed the problem.

Coil overs failed a couple at a time. Engine ran rough and transmission shifted strangely until they were replaced.

Transmission solenoid failed and caused the transmission to shift at higher rpm than normal. Like it was sticking.

Power window motor failed causing the rear window to fall down.

Dash board failed giving strange odometer readings.

Front wheel bearings were bad causing a strange noise. Priced fix at $600. Did it myself for $150 in parts. I thought I would get my hands greasy packing the bearings. Not true... easy to install. 3 large nuts and you are done.

ABS wheel sensors leaked. Can be fixed by removing them and drying them out. Silicone them back in.

Power steering pump started to whine. Flushed the fluid and it was fine.

Replaced front rotors from Summit Racing, pads from ford front and back. Easy install and working great at 93K.

Car overheated tonight. Let it cool and drove it home without incident. Looks like the oil based fan is at fault. I smelled the fluid and it looks bad. I will flush it and see if I am OK. Seen that sometimes people put water in the oil reservoir for the fan pump. That could kill it.

General Comments:

I bought this car for its performance and looks. It has delivered on that 100%.

I am disappointed at the quality from Ford on this product right down to the cheap lug nuts.

But somehow even with all the mechanical problems over the last 8 years of ownership. I still love this car.

I do club racing at the track in improved touring and get a chance to drive many race cars. I still enjoy driving my LS home after a day of racing.

If you want a reliable car don't buy an LS.

If you want performance and are willing to deal with a few issues. The LS is for you.

2000 Lincoln LS 3.9 V8

Summary:

This car is a piece of garbage, and it should be trashed as such

Faults:

I had to replace the valve cover gaskets (cost $650).

Check engine light came and car started to misfire.

A coil pack went bad #5 cylinder (cost $125).

Two days later the check engine light reappeared had to replace coil pack #7 (cost $125).

About a week later, guess again, the check engine light reappeared. I took it to Auto Zone and used their diagnostic tool which read p0306. I was not sure if it was both cylinder #3 and #6, so I bought 2 coil packs @ $43/each and replace them myself, which resolved the misfire, but my engine light is still on. Not sure how to reset it.

I hear a humming noise from the rear of the car whenever I release my foot from the gas pedal.

I need some front end work; whenever I hit a bump I hear a clunking noise. Either ball joints and/or tire rods need replacing.

My rear driver's side window will just drop down when trying to lower it.

My horn used to work when it wanted to. I would have to keep pressing the steering wheel until the horn blow. Now I cannot get it to blow at all.

In order to get a brake tag I need it to work (sucks).

This car is a piece of crap. They should have a recall and just trash these cars. I will never buy an American made car again.
