2001 Lincoln LS LSE 3.9L

Summary:

Fun car to drive once you get the kinks out of the way

Faults:

My LS started misfiring at 80,000 miles. I started doing some research on the car, I had to replace one coil at a cost of 75 dollars. After doing the research, I found that leaking valve cover problems were common, so before I had more problems I also replaced the left side valve cover gauge. That saved me a lot of time and money. My misfire problems have since gone away. Also using 93 octane fuel makes the vehicle run better.

At 105000 miles my A/C started acting up blowing hot air then back to cold. I took it to the dealer and the problem could not be figured out; the problem could never be reproduced with them. I took it to a mechanic I know and had him vacuum out the freon and re charge it again, haven't had the problem since. I also learned that they have problems with dual zone climate control, so I don't allow anyone to adjust the A/C; I keep it at one temp.

At 106,000 miles I had a problem with the transmission. The vehicle would not go above 65 miles and the revs were at 6000, but when you would turn it off and turned it back on, the problem would go away for about 10 minutes, then it would start again, and again I turned the car off and back on, and the problem would be gone, and 10 minutes later the problem would be back. So I took it to the dealer and they kept the car for 2 days, I got the car back and have not had the problem again. Oh, the dealer did not charge me anything.

At 113000 the vehicle would accelerate on its own. I would start the car and it would go straight to 4000 revs. I would turn it off then back on, and it would be back to normal. On the highway I wouldn't even press the gas and I would be gaining speed. I had to constantly press the brakes, and at red lights it was hard keeping the vehicle stopped. I would have to put it in neutral, and when I stopped I disconnected the battery and connected it again, and that seemed to fix the problem. That just happened one day and never has it happened again.

General Comments:

The vehicle is very quick, and I love the V8 engine.

It's a really fun car to drive. I like that I have the option to either drive it like an automatic or like a manual.

The 50/50 weight distribution also makes the car great at handling. I was able to avoid some dangerous material that fell from a semi truck and I did not lose control.

I agree with your review. Mine just got 70,000 miles on it, and I've had most of the problems you've had. I did the valve cover gasket and coil pack replacements myself, which saved me hundreds and it now runs great.

When I had the A/C issues, they actually went away once I changed the coil packs. I don't think they are related, but it hasn't messed up on me since.

The lingering issue I still have is with the rear passenger side window regulator that broke. Very much a pain.

Besides the issues... THIS CAR ROCKS!!! The V8 is awesome, and people don't expect this performance out of a Lincoln.

Summary:

Don't buy a Lincoln LS, or if you do I hope your pockets are deep!

Faults:

My brakes and rotors have been replaced twice. And my engine had a odd idling problem where it stalled frequently, so I paid $900 for a vacuum leak!

Now just after owning the car for 2 years, my transmission began slipping at forty mph... but after taking it in for a routine maintenance check, it needs the transmission replaced! It's gonna cost me $4500. Have you had similar experience?

Class action! Definitely. Count me in!

General Comments:

Car ran great but through time the transmission, windows and seats began to make slight sounds like crunch! Or noises.

If you don't know cars, don't buy this car. If you do, then you know the coil packs may go out, due to a faulty valve cover gasket, that allowed oil into the spark plug galley.

Fix = change gasket, replace coil packs, otherwise known as spark plug wires. Fix backs of seats. Replace window regulators with aftermarket regulators. Simple for most. $65 part. A couple hours max. Replace clock spring. Dealer or yourself. Part is $100. Change all fluids as recommended. Drive it, & fix the glitches yourself, & you'll have a car that handles well, & is more reliable than any Cattlelack ever built.
